I'm turning 40 in early December, and it's on a Friday. I'm a miserable bugger at the best of times, and the thought of a party (surprise or not) fills me with dread. Therfore I'm looking to get away for a few days somewhere reasonably remote, probably for the Thursday to the Sunday.

I'm in west Aberdeenshire, and because of the time of year I don't want to travel too far so circa 3 hours driving max. I've been in Glasgow & Edinburgh lots of times and if I head to either I'll probably just end up doing the same old things. This time I fancy a nice cottage for the 2 of us, quiet, with maybe some nice walks or cycling on the doorstep. I've looked at Fife coastal villages, somewhere near Aviemore etc but nothing is jumping out at me.

Any ideas or recommendations PHers?

I know the perfect place for you down near Johnshaven but it might be too close to you?
Hot tub
Wood burning stove.
Down a long farm lane right at the sea.
With a nice mile walk along the cost to the nearest pub.

We stayed just outside Newburgh a couple of months ago at the Tahuna Bothies. Liked it so much I booked a weekend in January. Must be a PH worthy place as a chap in one of the other bothies was rocking a C-reg 911.

Edit to add, a friend has a really lovely place at the Boat of Garten. We’ve stayed there a number of times as well! https://uppercorronich.com/

One of my mates has stayed at a nice cottage at St Cyrus a couple of times - it's down a track, overlooks the beach and is definitely well hidden away (he had to come and get me in the village when I went to visit).

I like that coast east of Inverness - have holidayed in Lossiemouth, Nairn, Cullen and Portsoy the last few years.

Edit to add if you want to go further afield, Easdale Island south of Oban is a great wee spot for 2-3 days.

Small world, I saw that 911 while walking the dog!
If you maybe recall an unruly Fox Red Lab pup he'll be a bit bigger (and hopefully better behaved) when you're back.

The Bothies are in a lovely location but I'm biased. smile

Ha, small world, we did meet your pup (Rosso?) with your other half (my wife knows her too) as we were walking our (allegedly) Fox Red Labrador puppy who would have been about 8 months at the time. Typical North East!

(I say allegedly as she's decided to be a dark yellow/golden like her dad, unlike her mother.)

Findhorn. Should be quiet at that time of year. Great beaches for walking and the coastal path for cycling. I’ve stayed here before, very quaint cottage for two.

Alternatively my holiday house on the Isle of Skye “might” be ready by then. wink
