Looking for somewhere we haven't been for a week holiday in October. Don't want to travel too far from Oban due to young pup (and another dog).
Seen a cottage advertised which looks OK but no idea what there is to do/see around the area.
Thanks in advance

Portpatrick is a nice small harbour town not far from Stranraer.

l did the coast road all the way from Port Glasgow to Portpatrick a couple of years back. Good day out. Interesting coastal towns, Ayr, Girvan etc. I was quite surprised. Great weather helped though. I was part of the country I'd never been to. Quite liked it.

I know the area very well.

Stranraer is a small uninspiring town but it's a beautiful area. If you get good weather it's brilliant.
Morrisons and Tesco in Stranraer as well as family butchers etc.

Portpatrick as said: walk to Killantringan lighthouse. Crown hotel for pub grub, Knockinaam Lodge for special dinner.

Port Logan (beach and sea swimming) and the botanical gardens and fishpond and down to Mull Of Galloway.

Sandhead and the beach. Tigh Na Mara pub/Hotel there

Round about Kirkcolm remnants of the WW2 flying boat bases.

Castle Kennedy Gardens

Hill walking in the Galloway Hills towards Newton Stewart and mountain biking at Kirroughtree including bike hire. Hills and Harbour Gin Distillery and Bladnoch Whisky distillery.

You can easily take a day trip to Belfast on Stena

Don't expect cinemas and swimming pools. This is a pretty rural lowland area.

Culzean Castle within an hours drive.

A few golf courses locally , The Whithorn church ruins (If that interests you).
Lots of really nice gardens to visit ,
Just watch when local as the Police do lots of speed checks and have scamera vans on the A75 etc , unmarked cars that like hiding in side roads and laybys etc .
Isle of Whithorn is nice with a wee harbour etc .
Enjoy.
