I was hoping that I may be able to get some recent feedback or commendations for a rebuild of a front diff on a Porsche 996 C4.
My brother in law has been quoted a frankly astonishing £7000 plus VAT to have the very mildest whine from his front diff rectified.
I have a feeling it is likely to be bearings rather than anything dire.
Frankly I just can't believe that this unit has to be replaced rather than rebuilt, as he was previously advised.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to who in Glasgow / Edinburgh or Stirling would be worth getting in touch with, ideally based on first hand experience.
Thanks in advance.

I used ASK transmissions in Falkirk last year and was really happy with the work Stuart did for me. He’s just a 1 man band and knows his stuff.

Not sure about diffs but Mackies in Glasgow are top notch for gearbox stuff, maybe call them?

Have you talked to Motor tune in Shotts.
Peter there is a top guy, and whilst he won't be doing the rebuild, he has many years of experience working on Porsche.
He could see you / brother in the right direction.
Convinient location wise as well....

Don't have a Porsche any more but used to take mine to him and it was a 100mile round trip....

Strathclyde Gearbox Services in Rutherglen - for a while at least its where the central belt porsche dealers took gearboxes to be fixed. Been 15yrs since I had any experience, but back then they certainly knew their stuff.

Gilmour Engineering in Cambuslang. Gearbox specialist admittedly, but I am sure he can do your diff. Craig is a top bloke and a Porsche nut to boot. One man operation but just so nice to deal with.
