Hi was hoping someone could help me, my insurance company where going to cancel my insurance due to the fact that I had changed occupation, I then just asked them if I could cancel my insurance myself and I paid the cancellation fee. Will I still have to disclose this to other insurance companies?

Were you telling them or did they find out by some other means?

If the former I'd ask why as you are supposed to tell them. Sounds like "scam" of some sort hidden in policy I suspect some of the cheaper comoanies make there money on changes to your policy

They asked me show proof of occupation but I had changed occupation so instead of changing my occupation they just cancelled my policy but I cancelled on my own behalf before they said it would cancel

I’d suggest there’s more to this!

Unless the insurance includes some specific business use cover?

That’s what I thought but that’s all that was said was that they needed proof of occupation but when I told them my new occupation they were going to cancel my policy so I cancelled it before they did, I don’t know if I would have to declare that because I cancelled it before they did

You have me thinking, I have never told my insurance company of an occupation change. It has never crossed my mind.

Does everyone else disclouse a job change to their current insurance company, or just mention it at renewal?

Nah I just travel to and from work and I have disclosed that, ye you should tell them when you change occupation, I still don’t understand if I should have to tell other insurers about the cancellation because I don’t know if it is one because I cancelled it before then

I personally would not tell the insurance company about a cancellation because like you said, you had cancelled it before hand. I had a friend that did the same (difference was the company was cancelling his insurance due to bad driving being recorded on his black box) but he phoned them up and cancelled it on the spot. He never disclosed it to any insurance companys and he has had no issues.

I have a different occupation now but when I was a mechanic, insurers would not cover me 3rd Party to drive other vehicles I did not own.
It's a generic Motor Trade thing, for obvious reasons.
That will go a long way to explain the OP's question.
