If I get enough takers, I can set this up - was thinking around early/mid-August...

Hi Steve,

Javelin organised one last year, and one in April this year. AFAIK they are going to try and arrange another one for later in the year - August/September.

There were only about 20 cars at the April one, so diluting the number of potential attendees between two events close together might leave both events struggling for numbers to make them viable.

OTOH, since i live about 5 miles from East Fortune, if the price is right I would go to all of them!

If the dates fit, (work is pain right now) then I'd be up for this. Once you decide on a date and details then post it here, I'll inform Scottish Elises (if you have no objections) there are usually quite a few of us who attend trackdays.

The last Javelin one at East Fortune was in May, unfortunately it clashed with a big Scottish Elises event, but I know quite a few who are interested in trying East Fortune, and as it's a few miles from my house it would be perfect for me.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies, guys. I posted on another forum yesterday and so far have 11 takers. At this rate it looks like we should be able to put enough numbers together to make it happen.

I realise that East Fortune is not the most accessible of places, but it is a good track, much faster than Knockhill, wider and with a lot less to hit if you fall off (i.e. it's safer)!

I obviously don't want to clash with Javelin's day, so I'll bear that in mind when setting a date.

Javelin said they had booked 10 September but it is not yet on their Website.

I already have that in the diary but might do another as well if the date suited.

Steve,

whats the surface like at East fortune?
My dad is quite keen to have a go but has heard it is all a bit rough and gravelly. If its clean and smooth you could have another couple of takers.

I would be interested in this and could probably rustle up another 3-4 people depending on costs, the jevelin event was considerably more expensive than Knockhill though, any idea on pricing, half day, full day etc?

cheers

Surface at East Fortune has been renewed on all corners to a standard for motor bikes - so now fine.

There are two straights that are a wee bit bumpy (at least they were in the LMP!), but the surface isn't gravelly at all. I'm not sure if they've resurfaced these straights, but I should find out tomorrow (I mean today!). Everywhere else the track has been re-surfaced.

This is the first event of it's type that we're putting together and we're aiming to make it as professional and hassle free as possible.

We'll only go ahead with it if we get enough numbers to make it commercially viable.

For the day itself, we plan to:

- to ensure that there are properly trained, radio-linked marshals posted around the circuit, just like a race day.
- There will be an ambulance and paramedics on hand.
- Proper insurance will be in place.
- A recovery truck will be in place.
- You will be given a full briefing and strict rules will be enforced throughout the day.
- A professional race driver (or two) will be on-hand for coaching.
- There will be refreshments and food included in the price (East Fortune isn't renowned for it's burger vans, mainly because there aren't any!).

The format will be open pit lane, and the day will last from approx. 9.00am to 5.00pm (with an hour for lunch). This will depend on local authority regulations regarding noise.

I'm not sure what a track-night costs at Knockhill as I've never attended one because I always thought 2-3 hours running was poor value. Perhaps someone can advise? In any case, we're looking at somewhere between £100-150 per driver. Extra drivers can be added to each car for a much smaller fee, and passengers can be carried, for a smaller fee again.

Like I said, we aim to do this professionally to ensure that everyone gets the most enjoyment, safety and value for money from the day. An added bonus is that East Fortune is normally blessed with good weather, even if it's pi**ing down everywhere else! But it does get windy...

Nothing to stop you coming along and signing on as a 2nd driver with someone, or as a passenger.

Spectating is even cheaper (i.e. free).

I'll make a definite announcement in the next couple of weeks. If it goes ahead there will be a dedicated page on our web-site to provide information about the day and payment facilities.

FYI, the Javelin day was discussed at length amongst a lot of the Knockhill "regulars" and the general consensus was it was too highly priced for an airfield circuit that had some suspect surface quality. If you keep it to the bottom end of the pricing you would get people to come. Days at other airfield circuits like Elvington are coming in around £99.

I've been on the phone today with the land-owner who was telling me that the majority of the track has now been re-surfaced, so it should be much better than the last time a track-day was held there.

I'm don't know what was provided by Javelin, but I have been on other track-days and based on those experiences I think we can put together a day that - whatever the price we finally set - will give excellent value for money.

eh? There was a trackday at East Fortune only a couple of weeks ago?? 2 sections are still quite rough but it's not an airfield.
I dont think £150 is alot of money for a full day open-pit summer event.

Steve,

Javelin's event had about the same level of arganisation that you are proposing (with the exception of race driver instruction), and they had arranged for a fast food van to be there too. Cost was £150 for the day, open pit lane.

The surface is mostly motorsport tarmac, with a few stretches of older tarmac, and one crossing of an old runway on concrete. There is one stretch which is a bit uneven - there seem to be slight 'waves' in the older tarmac, but there is no loose surface, the whole thing is way superior to Crail for example.

It's a nice change from Knockhill since there are some fast corners - on one of the newly resurfaced sections I was doing 4-wheel drifts through the corner at about 100.

Only gripe is the new surface is still a little green, and grip isn't quite as good as it might be, but that will come with time.

I haven't heard anyone who has driven the circuit on either of the last two track days have any concerns - they seem to originate from before any of the resurfacing (or rebuilding of the circuit) was done.

Already booked for Javelin 10 Sept.

Might be able to do 20 August also, depending on car availability - non-runner again at present!
