Decent evening meal, Kirkconnel, Gretna or Lockerbie?
Discussion
Good evening chaps. I'm taking MrsSE for a cheeky night in Scotland, staying near Kirkconnel.
We'll be travelling from NE England and heading past Gretna, Lockerbie, etc at around teatime.
I would like to stop off somewhere interesting but not too expensive for dinner, because we've overspent on cars this year... Anywhere recommended that does something like two courses for £20-25? We don't mind a detour to take in somewhere nice. Interesting (location or building, or history) is also good, and we like pretty much anything.
MrsSE will be at the helm of an MX5 (naturlich), so we're not fussed about drinks, just good food!
Cheers in advance!

We stayed here https://www.dryfesdalehotel.co.uk/ a couple of years ago and the food was excellent, especially the sizzler. Not far off the M74 either.
Slightly short (just off the M6 Kingstown, Carlisle junction) but Lounge on the Green? https://www.loungeonthegreen.co.uk

Never been myself but it does have a good reputation.
Also worth a thought is:

On the way from Dumfries to Kirconnel.
