That was the point of my first post about this.
They are deliberately putting them up in a section of road with a good safety record because that is where the rader tests showed most people breaking the speed limit.
The actual dangerous sections of the A77 did not have a constant flow of cars exceeding the limit, but some very poor driving that scameras cannot detect. Most accidents i have seen on the A77 have involved stationary traffic or someone crossing the centre of the road.
This will rake the cash in and do nothing to inmprove safety.

Oh, dear! Driving from Glasgow to Prestwick this evening, and I didn't notice the SPECS cameras on the section of A77 near Hansel Village until too late. I wonder if they're working yet? Anyone know? I was doing about 80. I suppose I'll find out for definite if I get a letter within the next 2 weeks. (Am I right in thinking this is the timescale that it will or won't happen?)

I believe they are.
Last week I drove from the Whitletts roundabout to Darnely via Volvo at St Quivox, there is a set just after the Whitletts, another set just before the Sandyford Toll, I belive there are 2 sets between the Sandyford Toll and the Dutchead R/B and then another pair Between the Dutchead and the Dundonald Junction (I think that Hansel Village) Cant remember if there are any between there and Kilmarnock, it'll prob be next week before I'm along the 77 again to check.
