I had a rare journey on the train on Sunday and out of corner of my eye, noticed a load of cars lined up next to the railway at the back of Ratho. If you search Buchan Towbars Ratho its between them and the trainline.

The google maps image shows similar to what I saw, with rows of cars parked up but obviously not in a public parking type of way.

Curiosity is getting better of me - anyone any ideas what they are for?

(sorry don't know how to post a direct link to the map)

I'd second the airport parking theory. When i worked at one (many years ago) we'd line them up in a similar fashion to tally with when the flights were due back. A pain in the hoop if someone returned early and unexpectedly for some unforseen circumstance and we had to go move about 2.doz cars to dig theirs out.

Is there not some sort of remote valet parking on offer at EDI?

Doesn’t Eastern/western have a compound there?

I commute to the Gateway each day. I think it is just airport parking. They used to put smaller planes, private jets and the occasional military planes there.

I think you must be looking at a different area. No way they are putting planes at the area I linked to earlier in thread!

The sign on the fence is for James McNee coach hire so that explains the buses but the bigger compound in question, I'm still going with over spill for one of the airport parking crowd... or it's a compound for Eastern Westerns trade ins or something.

The land had an application in for change of use for "Meet and Greet service car parking on existing land of the old railway car park".

Plenty objections from the neighbours too hehe

Comment:Danger to the school children.

Apologies, I don't even use that stretch of railway. Never checked your link 😀 they do use a disused runway for parking, but that is miles away from where you linked.

These cars have only arrived in the past week or so. I go out for a walk at lunchtime and pass this. I'll chin one of the bus drivers/duty guys. They are always out washing cars at the top of the hill when i pass wink

Initial thought as others was more airport parking.
