Music Venue Glasgow.
Anyone been, what's it like, (area looks a bit rough on Google) Safe parking? Distance to station, walkable and safe?
Thanks for any guidance, considering Joanne Shaw Taylor concert in March.

Might see you there then ... :P

Tbh it's not the best venue (O2 ABC was better but as that is gone ...), pretty basic & a bit shed like.
I wouldn't try to park on Eastvale Place - it's limited & you will struggle to get back out past the leaving audience. Sandyford/Kelvinhaugh/Teviot/Yorkhill St. should be fine.
You could get a train to Exhibition Centre station, cross over the Expressway to Stobcross Rd, walk west along that to the pedestrian bridge at the distillery, back over Expressway & under the railway arch - should be shorter than walking up to Argyle St & then down Kelvinhaugh St..

Thanks for that, it does look a bit rough and ready in the pics, what's it like for viewing & listening? What are the usual start & finish times?
If I come, I'd be coming down from Oban, looks like the last train is too early so I'll be driving. Shame as the train fare is only £10!
But parking is OK then so that's a bonus.

there are actually several different venues in the complex so it depend what one it is actually in. I have only been in 2.

if it's Galvanisers it's basically an empty shed - see https://swg3.tv/hire/galvanizers. viewing & sound are adequate.

if it's the TV Studio/Warehouse I don't like it - small, low ceiling (not good for sound imo) & a low stage so if you are a short-arse like me you will struggle if not down the front (especially if you have 6+footers inbetween). Warehouse afaik is basically the TV Studio with a wall opened up to add space.
see https://swg3.tv/hire/tv-studiohttps://swg3.tv/hire/warehouse

There will be an 11:00pm council curfew so it is more likely to end 10:30 or 45pm. Start will depend if there is a support band or not.

thanks very much for that info, "adequate" doesn't inspire and while I like to see the band and the actual playing I can't get too close to the stage as my failing hearing will just get worse. Would imaging JST will not be quiet.
Need to give it some thought, she's on in Edinburgh too but that's over 3 hours away for me. Why can't we get some decent bands on in Oban, the Corran Hall is a great venue with very little on. (Last saw King Creosote there and also the Proclaimers).

Would come down to Glasgow for Joe Bonamassa but not at the prices they are asking.

last time I saw JST was in the GRCH - a far better venue imho.

I agree about JB - normally I go & see him but not at this tour prices. Seems that this year a no. of acts are really pushing to see just what the limits of demand are re. ticket pricing.

& the TRNSMT lineup released today is just shocking. rolleyes

TRNSMT nothing thee that would interest me, except maybe Snow patrol but the rest are unknowns or worse than the average pub band IMO.
The Kooks think I saw them on Blue Peter a few years ago, rubbish, and George Ezra FFS, the epitome of Marketing and Hype over Talent

Think I'll give JST a miss at Glasgow, as much as I prefer smaller venues as they are more intimate (and JST did about 10 last year, I just wasn't able to go) I'll spend the money on a couple of CDs instead and wait for another tour.
Thanks very much for your help.

Yes. Smaller & of course in the East End. Parking can be an issue especially if something is on in Barrowlands.
I already have my tickets for JST & Samantha Fish smile

Thanks
Ticket bought
Need to decide whether to drive down (just under three hours each way)
Catch train or bus (free at my age) but that entails an overnight stop somewhere.
Any travelodge or similar close by?

St Lukes is in a dodgy part of the city near the Barrowlands. The area is hoaching with junkies and alchies. It's an OK venue (owned by Tenants) but there's not much else around there and it's not great for public transport.

SWG3 is in a relatively decent area as it's towards the west end. Again there's not much around the area as it's a bit like an industrial unit.

I know the guys that run SWG3 as have used the premises for a few events. If I had my choice between the 2 I'd pick the later every time.

there is a Travelodge on Queen St, a Premier Inn & Ibis on George Square.
~ a 1 mile/20 minute walk.

Parking at St Luke's is all on-street parking, usually the metered time finishes at 6pm. I've had no problem parking on Bain St (where St Luke's is) for Barrowlands gigs. Not the best area of town if parking something attractive (profile suggests TVR?) but regarding run of the mill cars I've left my old Polo GTI and current Focus parked there for a few hours in the evening with no problems.

There's a Morrisons across the road but I'm sure I remember seeing "3 hour limit" signs last time, so depends on whether you fancy the risk of a ticket (unenforceable?).

For safe parking, there's Q Park Candleriggs a half mile walk away in Merchant City. Expensive though at £10.50 for 4 hours.

From an audience/acoustic pov I would say that it is. Personally, I don't think it's that bad an area to walk into town from even at night - but then I am a born & bred Glaswegian.

Was at Barrowlands last night (Airbourne) & even as a local it took me ~ 10 minutes to find a space for the car (something was also on in St Luke's) close by but if you are prepared to walk further it shouldn't be an issue. Also, I suppose that it depends upon how early that you get there.

If you're staying in town, public transport isn't that bad to St. Lukes - walk up to Gallowgate & there's a bus every couple of minutes to/from the city centre, even at night. Worth considering if you do decide to stay over.
