Hi, thought I would post here as I am getting some teeth sucking.

My 130k mile 15 year old Cayenne S has lunched a clutch pack (reversing hard up a 15% slope, on a single track road that was blocked by a crash), and I think I am just going to put a used gearbox in it - thanks to the miracle of bore scoring there are plenty of used boxes around for reasonable money.

I do lots of my own work but don't want to do this - has anyone any recommendations? Ideally I am looking for a garage that has done a Cayenne or Touareg box before, although TBH it doesnt look like a horrendous job from Rennlist etc., just needs the right ramps and lifts, and experience.

I have already tried the local transmission specialists, who aren't wanting to get involved with used transmissions from ebay - don't blame them!

I am Dundeeish, and am probs going to have to recover the car to wherever it goes. Cheers!

The guys at SVS in Dundee have loads of VW experience so might be worth a shout.

Yep, tried SVS, he said try Barnetts or OPC (!) , as he thought it would need engine dropped, special lifts etc. I dont think either of those things are nevissarily true, maybe its the way the main dealer does it. I didnt want to go around with it with him, he wasnt up for it.

Stop press though, I tried a battery disconnect today and it seems to be working again!!!! No idea why, maybe it was a limp mode thing? Or maybe it will be fine for a bit and then do it again, in which case please keep the suggestions coming!

There's a Porsche specialist in Stirling, can't remember the name but it's on Borrowmeadow Road.

Cheers guys, just getting a bit far to recover a 2.5 ton truck to...its still working, amazingly, but If it goes wrong again my next move is probably ‘big Peter’ at Motortune, an hour and a half away in Shotts, but I’d say the best in Scotland for Porsche.

Or I could wait for the new OPC in Perth, LOL

Another vote for Barry Yacomini, good guy and in my experience if he can help out then he will. Even if he can't then he will usually be able to suggest somewhere else who may be able to help you out.
