Got alignment done for like the 5th time since Christmas yesterday and bam another pothole last night and it's out again... For whatever reason my car goes out pretty fast I'm guessing the harsh ride it has means it takes the bumps n holes in the road harder than other cars.

Problem is with hunter alignments your looking at minimum 60 quid Inc vat just to align the front end and even with the hunter system some places manage to get the toe slightly off.

So looking for something cheaper if I'm gonna be getting it done every fortnight , I like my steering wheel set where I sit it, but most places fail to hold it properly in position so getting somewhere with attention to details would be great any one know of a hidden gem of a place that doesn't show up when you Google alignment Glasgow that would be good for fortnightly alignments?

Cheers

why are you not sending an email/completion form to your council or transserv about the potholes and trying to claim the cost from them.

Cause I work as a taxi driver and usually when I'm hitting these potholes I've got passenger's on board so don't get the chance to get out and take pics etc...

So by time I've dropped them off I've usually forgotten the exact location and missed my chance. I hit one that knocked my rear out and had to get my rear axle replaced as it was non adjustable.. so yeah it's costly as fk.

Any good places you know of?

Yeah I feel your pain, life is quite busy without having to do the councils job of maintaining and reporting issues on the road especially when F all gets done but I would advise you to make the time to even send an email of complaint to them about the approx location of the issue.

I have been doing it recently and it seems to work in getting them to move their ass and even patch up the potholes.

In regards to getting alignment done cheaply, I dont know of anywhere to be fair. They all charge around the same rate approx for the hunter alignmnet and i wouldnt bother wasting your time getting something else.

Sorry I cant be more help

No worries man was just hoping there was some guy that does good job using the old supertracker from years of experience that would do like 20 quid a go if it was a fortnightly thing it's mainly front toe that goes out.

Kwikfit in Aberdeen offer a 'unlimited' tracking and alignment package for a set period of time ( it's 1 or 2 years I can't remember sorry) for a set fee. Think it was around £100. Although you're Glasgow so not much use I know but maybe one down there offers something similar? A very quick google didn't bring anything up but maybe worth popping in and asking?

Yeah one near me does the alignment deal but when I asked how many times I can bring it in was told 3/4 times a year.

So why does my car keep going out so easy feels like I'm driving glass all it takes is one smallish pothole even at slow speeds and it's back to veering right with the steering wheel centered.. so frustrating it's only 18k ml old

What car is it? 18k miles and you're a taxi driver so presumably that's around a year or less old that the car is. Should still be under warranty so back to the dealership?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm 100% positive that geometry issues caused by pothole damage is not a warranty item... so good luck with that one. On the "cheap toe adjustment" that was fine back in the day or basic cars that had solid rear beams and minimal front adjustment so you just got it parallel and job's a good un but for cars with multi-link and such like, anything less than four wheel geometry is a waste of time... plus you can just the old gauges to set the front toe angles all day long but if there are issues elsewhere, it's a waste of time.

Cheers Davie so any ideas why it goes out after one half decent knock?

Whenever I get one knock it returns to doing the same thing.

Pulling left but steering to the right.

So if the steering wheel is held centre it will drive to the right but if I don't grip the wheel can feel it pulling left.

All he did was adjust the toe and the pull disappeared as well as it drove straight with steering wheel centered

That's always a difficult one:

1. Damage, where a steering / suspension component is bent
2. Wear, where a moving joint / bush is worn
3. Movement, where an arm / link / component moves slightly

Hence, to find answers it'll really take a very good four wheel set up plus a good operator to first diagnose and then resolve the issues. If the car is all good, no damage or worn parts and is set within spec and then you take another hit, something changes... a further geometry check should easily pin point what has changed, ie compare X data to Y data and then go from there to resolve be it a worn part / damage sustained etc.
