Another speed limit reduction on A71 Livingston to Edinburgh
Discussion
Use this road twice a week collecting my laddie from his mums and noticed tonight there's now a 40 Limit from about a mile prior to Dalmahoy/Ratho turn right through to about a mile past said crossroad/junction.
It's not a hugely fast road at the best of times and I know there's been a couple of bad accidents there in the past few years but this is an rural A Road that has very few turns off's and junctions. Have they gone too far? It wasn't long ago they put up warning signs about the Ratho/Dalmahoy junction that periodically flash on approach to warn you, but now to have a 40 limit? I can still remember when it was NSL the whole way. On a Saturday night when it's quiet it's a road you can easily do the NSL along other than a couple of places, never mind sticking to 50 but 40MPH is very slow on it. Thoughts?

Seems to be the way roads are going. Instead of spending money on improving junctions, taking out bad bends etc. they are just sticking lower speed limits on. At least they got rid of the speed camera that straddled the change of limit near Heriot Watt.
I remember the A701 being national speed limit for the most part between Edinburgh and Penicuik. These days it is a potholed mess with a large chunk now 30 MPH and 40 MPH elsewhere (not that you can get to 40 between the poor surface and out-of-sync traffic lights added at almost every junction).

TBH it needed lights there, I turn in and out of Dalmahoy a few times a week every week and its made it much easier. The combination of impatience and people overtaking the buses and turning cars make it a nightmare coupled with the two bus stops on either side of Dalmahoy and the turn down to Ratho, I've sat in the Dalmahoy entrance for 10 mins sometimes waiting for a gap. My otherhalf has been stuck in there for 30 mins as someone has decided to overtake a bus and plough into oncoming traffic.
