I work in the Middle East but interested in buying a house Inverness/ Aviemore location. Does anyone commute to Middle East etc or down to LHR/ MAN/ EDI to catch a flight elsewhere? I’d be back once or twice a month for a few days at a time.

I commuted between Aberdeen or Edinburgh to London weekly for eight years, and frequently onwards globally. Biggest problem, especially in the winter, was British Airways. They would pull the Scottish services immediately there was a need for slots at H'row.

I commuted from Glasgow and Leeds for near 20 years to ME and Africa. So long as there is a flight to a hub like Amsterdam then it shouldn't be a problem.

I have worked overseas for 11 years now, I am based near Edinburgh airport so use that, of all the places I have worked including Middle East 99% of the flights i used transit through Amsterdam.

Schipol airport is one of the best hub airports I use.

Most of the people up north that I know transit through Amsterdam also from either Glasgow, Edinburgh or Aberdeen depending on your location.

Commuted Edinburgh to Nigereia via LHR for 7 1/2 years on a monthly basis. Had very, very few delays.
Comuted Edinburgh to Norway for 5 1/2 years, with the last 2 1/2 being a weekly drive from Edinburgh - Aberdeen then a flight. Very, very few delays and never missed a flight.
To be honest, I was knackered after all of that!

Aviemore to Inverness, connect through LHR would be quite esay imho.

I drive down from Aberdeen to Edinburgh and take the Qatar flight to Doha, then a short hop after that. Gave up on British Failways from Aberdeen via LHR or LGW, disastrous and to be avoided at all costs.

Driving from Aviemore or Inverness to Edinburgh isn't much more of a chore than from Aberdeen.

Doha is the place I would be commuting too.

You're laughing then. I'm sure you already know Qatar airways are excellent and the Edinburgh flight is a Dreamliner now so all good. Usually gets into Edinburgh around lunchtime but it leaves early morning which can be a pain. I left Aberdeen at 2am last trip to make the departure but the benefit is the road is empty.

Eta, why am I telling you about how good Qatar Airways and the Dreamliner are! :-D

I commute from Inverness to Accra via Amsterdam using KLM, I gave up on flying through London with BA as they have gone properly downhill in recent years.
When I was in Indonesia I flew with Emirates, the A380 was superb

KLM also do one of the earliest flights out of EDI every day. Their flight to Schipol leaves at around 6AM which is the same as our earliest flights leave (easyJet employee working out of Edinburgh).
