Minimum pricing for alcohol
Discussion
I understand that this will have zero effect on your average PH'er but I still can't figure out what it will achieve?
From what I have seen all that is going to happen is things like 2 litre bottles of cheap strong cider could nearly triple in price , going from about £3.50 up to about £10!
So, alcoholics will presumably stop buying that stuff and buy more expensive stuff that isn't affected by the huge tax hike, they will probably be able to buy even more alcohol for £10 than if they carried on with the white lightning.
Or the makers of white lightning and other cheap brands will just raise the price to bring it up to the threshold , it won't have a negative effect on their sales any more than the tax hike will.
Or, will those that live near Englandshire be doing booze cruises across the non existent border and will that be legal?
Might be a good time to open a huge off license the other side of the wall!
Either way, I can't see it curing alcoholism..I can see theft increasing though.
