So last week, before going on holiday, I had a small altercation with a tree branch sticking onto the roads near my gran's house... at first I thought it was just dirt (country roads in Scotland in September do not make for a clean car). Unfortunately after cleaning, I see it's left this lovely scratch:

Note: it's the top one from the left side. The bottom grey line is the monoblock separator...! Taking a photo of metallic paint is harder than I thought.

Any recommendations for getting it sorted? Car is fairly new so it might come out with some Scratch X, but... it's fairly new so I don't want to risk it myself!

Cheers

Two options - attempt to polish it out, or it needs paint.

I'm of the opinion that it's worth attempting to polish it out, because even if it doesn't work you've not really lost anything. Do you know anyone with access to a machine polisher? That'll be far easier than attempting to do it by hand with Scratch X, although that's better than nothing.

Can't help on Edinburgh sprayers, but Stewart Roden in Winchburgh does a good job (he has the contract for Aston paint & body repairs)

Peter Wilson at Prestige Car Bodies in Cockenzie does excellent bodywork if you require more than a polish to lift it out. A real old-school perfectionist.

I'd definitely try to polish that out first before looking at painting panels.

There's a few decent detailers around here would sort that for you... probably a list on Detailing World somewhere.

Unfortunately I didn't know anyone with a machine polisher - I was hoping my grandad might have one in his garage of random tools, but no luck. There was an orbital sander, maybe with the right adaptor...? wink

In the end, I went for the Scratch X by hand and it's actually worked wonders. Of course, once you start one bit you start finding all the other little ones... Anyway, car's looking great now so thanks for the advice!

As to the other posters, I'm actually in Prestonpans - I did say Edinburgh, but I mean... it's a *car* right... it's meant to be driven smilesmile and I figured Edinburgh might get more recommendations... turns out I was wrong! So both the Cockenzie and Wallyford guys will be my go-to if I ever need anything more serious.

Thanks!
