hi, i seen this mentioned a few times on here before: that a fellow board member would be willing to check out a local car on someone's behalf (for "beer money") i would be willing to paypal you a decent amount to compensate for your time.

the mission is to check a 135i (automatic, sorry!) i think he is willing to give a test drive.

any takers in Edinburgh?

i am in glasgow, so not that far, but can't get the chance for a while to do it myself... and scared someone is gonna snap it up! been looking for over a month now for a suitable 135i, and this one is great (except i wanted a manual, but hey ho) and right within my budget.

If your fairly confident it's the car for you, paying for an AA check might be worth while. It will include an hpi report and will let you know about the state of brakes, tyres, exhaust, tracking, paint amongst other things.

I've used the service twice when buying cars at the other end of the country.

I ended up getting new brakes and tyres from a dealer as a result, so it paid for itself on one occasion.

yeah, already thought about that... though it just passed its MOT today. I know that is no guarantee though.

paranoid about someone swooping in and stealing it... already happened before after a 3 week wait - gutted! Very certain the car is for me as long as it is as the owner says it is.

I was looking on Autotrader....

If it's a private sale (as I suspect it is) I'll not offer to go and have a look at it/test drive it.
Because I know next to nothing about 1 series and have never driven one to compare it to.

If it was a dealer I'd maybe go along and have a 'shot'. smile

even if you did get someone to check it what are the chances they're going to spot the problems? someone will say its mint and their view of what is mint is different to yours... besides if you're in glasgow - come on - its 45min on M8....or on the train...
