Morning everyone, just got up this morning an ddecided to go on a road trip, going to head from Glasgow up to glencoe/scotsburgring and onto fort Bill. I'm thinking of heading from there to Kyle of lochalsh/isle of skye.
Can anyone tell me is there suitable fuel in Kyle of lochalsh/skye. Equivalent to BP ultimate/shell V power.
Had a quick search but can't find anything
Thanks

I've not been to Skye for 3/4 years but there dash a BP station about 5 minutes after crossing the bridge I think at a co-op-not sure if they did ultimate was there for work in my old laguna.

A Google suggests this station might be shut now, I can't see anything on Skye,

This has been asked in the past and it's always been suggested that you should bring your own additives in case you can't find any of the premium stuff.

There`s an Esso station on the A82 out of Fort Bill (Inverness road before the ski center) that do Esso Extreme, their higher octane stuff. Worth checking with them.

There`s apparently a BP nearby that does Ultimate too.

Is whatever you're going in incapable of running on 95, or would you just prefer 98+?

Nothing more than super 97 (i.e. no 98/99/102).
Broadford on Skye, next to a large (for the Highlands) CoOp and opposite some public loos. A useful combo!
Station Road, heading towards Kyle just before the, er, station!
Ullapool has some IIRC.

Last 99 if you're using the A9 is Inverness Tesco. Useful pre blat to Achnasheen and beyond smile
Fort William has super too, if you're coming up that way, don't know if it's >97,

regards,
Jet

There's a gleaner station in Kyle of localsh just before bridge, their super was shell vpower last time I was there 3 years ago. It is not labelled as such, however, my car is very fussy about anything else and ran fine on it.

95 or 97 and a splash of octane booster won't hurt for a few days.

Thanks for the replies, ended up not going to Kyle of lochalsh or skye, as spent a lot of time in glencoe, kirklochleven and mallaig. So unfortunately I can't update the fuel situation there.
Iv never used additives like octane booster before, don't even know how to use it, haha. Iv had the car 15 years and have never put anything other than v power or equivalent in it so I'm not sure if it would be ok with anything less than 97 ron.
It wouldn't make it from fort bill to Kyle of lochalsh then over the skye and back again on one tank of fuel I don't think, it might but I wouldn't like to risk it.
Had a great day trip though and the weather was nice

What car are we talking about? Standard or modified?

Road to the Isles , on the A82, just north of the A830 junction. ( Opposite the Distillery).

Petrol prices.com confirms both places. ( Esso one ,heading north on the A82 north of the Junction to the Aluminium works and the BP one).

If you end up near SKYE ( with additives) , remember that fuel on Skye is a bit cheaper than on the mainland

I just did part of NC500 route in Porsche 911 C4S (2007) that likes the higher octane fuel. July 2020.

There is a Jet petrol garage in Ullapool (on the seafront) that does Super Unleaded 97 RON. My Porsche 911 C4S (2007) prefers 99 RON from Shell or Tesco but 97 was best I could find.

I hear a Thurso garage has higher octane fuel also.

Hope this helps.

Best drive for me was Lairg to Oldshoremore - virtually all single track road - A838 - 43 miles of just me (no other cars on earth except mine is my ideal scenario!) and the recently serviced 911 on twisty roads through great scenery. Watch out for the sheep!

I'd need an octane booster if I were to run up the west coast.

I'd need to get 95 up to 99 ( that's what the car is mapped for)

Having never used the stuff, how would I know I've managed that by pouring in an additive? To confirm, this is not about power gains, simply protecting the engine from knocking that a lower octane might give.

Is there a science to this?

The only other alternative is to re map the car back to 95 for such a trip.

Thanks.
