Hi new here. My cars DPF has been a headache for a while and I really want to gut it however I'm very aware of the issues for getting an MOT with this. Anyone know of a garage in Aberdeen that would gut the DPF and then carry on giving the car an MOT in future. PM of garage names preferred so they aren't put up here under scrutiny.

Cheers.

Why do it at the MOT station?
Get it done somewhere that is competent at reprogramming ECUs or you'll have problems when the car tries to regenerate. They need to disable the regeneration process.

As long as the body of the DPF is present, you will pass at any MOT station, even if there are "suspicious" weld lines either side of the DPF and black smoke bellowing out the exhaust.

This will very likely change in future, but at the moment it will pass.

Glad it's not just me thinking that. There's a reason why that crap is supposed to get caught and disposed of properly. Completely agree with the inclusion of this check on the MOT.

Unfortunately stuck with a car that's a flawed design and never designed to have a DPF on it so i cannot "fix" it. If the car was a couple of years older it wouldn't have had one on it at all. Anyway point kinda taken its just a pest that semi regularly I have to go rag it up the dual carriageway on a lunch break for a few miles to clear it and burn more fuel and add more pollutants to the air.

There are cars where it's true that the design is flawed.

I quite fancied a 2008 Mazda6 2.0D but a quick Google showed it's plagued with serious DPF issues even when everything is working "normally". Regenerations constantly fail for a variety of reasons and every time they do, diesel is dumped into the oil reservoir. Many people have ended up with engines that ate themselves to death when the oil level got too high and the engine started sucking it up.

Rather than get the DPF gutted, I just didn't buy the car. But if you already have one then it sounds like a PITA. And the Mazda engine isn't alone - many early adopters of DPF technology have similar issues.

It's a bad design. The engine was discontinued after being on sale for only a year (replaced with the 2.2D which is plagued by timing chain problems).
There is no warning that a DPF regeneration is taking place or that one has failed, and the regenerations on that old Mazda 2.0D can take upwards of 30 minutes so you're very likely to turn the engine off while one is happening.
I've read that people have found about a litre of diesel in their oil after only a week.

I have a different 2008 car with a DPF (Mondeo) and it's vastly better. Regenerations take less than 10 minutes and although I've had a few failed ones, my oil level has stayed perfect for a year.
