edinburgh 20mph limits
Discussion
has anyone in/ around Edinburgh noticed that they've started the next wave of 20mph limits?!?!? Just been on holiday for a week and before I went started to notice 20mph markings on the road....... last night on way home from holiday noticed loads of 20mph signs up all around the stockbridge area.
passed Edinburgh academy theres some lamp posts with 30mph on one side of the road and 20mph on the other.
I need to pay more attention to them, but so far I think they cover from almost craigleith (sainsburys/ retail park) all the way into town! gonna be a nightmare driving through town now, when its busy your lucky if you move at 10mph but when its empty its gonna be ridiculous driving some of these roads at 20mph!

The new limits don't come into force until 28th February.

Even the police can see how ridiculous the pretty much blanket 20mph is

Obviously they will do the odd speed check here and there when figures need a boost but for the few police that there is driving about its going to be very hard to police.

Yup
It`s ace. I cycle in Edinburgh and am now the fastest thing on loads of these roads.
Do you feel safer on the road? Does the differential make that much difference? It`s ace. I cycle in Edinburgh and am now the fastest thing on loads of these roads.
I ventured out for a half mile ride a few years ago having not ridden a pushbike since I was a kid and found it frightening - haven't been out again since.
Perhaps it's because I ride a motorbike that I am acutely aware of all the hazards yet don't have the speed and acceleration on a pushbike to mitigate against them.

Yes I do actually. Maybe for different reasons though. Edinburgh is now such a pain to drive in that the traffic numbers have fallen a lot, but the lower car speeds certainly help.I ventured out for a half mile ride a few years ago having not ridden a pushbike since I was a kid and found it frightening - haven't been out again since.

It`s pretty easy to get around now on the push bike and is safer than it`s ever been IMO.
Considering more 20mph limits come into force this week, it's interesting to note that many legal 220mph signs have still to be erected. Travel east towards Portobello, and all side streets from Craigentinny Avenue to Wakefield Ave have 20 mph painted on the road, but no proper (legal) 20mph signs on entry into a zone.
Then go along Seafield Road and turn into Craigentinny Avenue - Sign says 30mph but road paint says 20mph. There are no legal 20mph "entry" signs all the way from Seafield, up through Restalrig to London Road!
Pity there's hardly any breweries left in Edinburgh for the Council to disorganise a P**s up in!

nah not seen any police with speed traps or watching traffic on my route in the mornings or night. I'm finding it very hard to stick to the 20mph limit in/ through stockbridge area, during peak times its usually just stop/start/ watch out for people pulling out spaces/ crossing the road..... but now adding in trying to make sure I'm only at 20mph is just another distraction
If Manchester can figure it out how many years and investigations do you reckon until edinburgh council realise it was a pointless excercise.
