Overnight parking at Edinburgh Park
Discussion
Got an overnight next Sunday in Edinburgh - we were planning to get train until I saw the prices!
So either drive and park overnight in Edinburgh (would prob be 24 hours parking all in) or park at the Edinburgh Park and get tram in.
Can you leave your car here for 24 hours (taking aside the argument re private parking charges)
Is it safe to do so??

I think there is still a 24hr car park at Greenhill Place which is quite close to you, although I am not sure about costs.
On street parking is free after 5.30 or 6pm within about 5-10 minutes walking distance from where you are staying if you are able to move your car during the day.
It's c £2.40 an hour for street metered parking nearby, but the max duration is 4 hours.

I would park on Roseburn Street or one of the side streets just outside of Murrayfield stadium and jump on the tram - closest to town, you're outside of parking zone and area is fairly safe ( even Civic could be at risks at some areas in Edinburgh :-)).
Alternative is to use park and ride at Heriot Watt Uni as it allows overnight stays.

yep, agree with the above, I live in this bit of town and pay for my annual permit even though it gets used about 20 days across the year as permits are only required in my zone Monday- Friday 8:30am- 5:30pm.On street parking is free after 5.30 or 6pm within about 5-10 minutes walking distance from where you are staying if you are able to move your car during the day.

I would look at the area from Albany street/ Abercrombie place (north) down as far as 'great king street'/ 'Drummond place' and find a metered parking bay and park there. you could stick £5 in the meter on sunday and it should print you off a ticket lasting for 2hrs on Monday morning (about 10:30am) which should cover you for hotel check out??
I'm probably hated by local residents, but I usually park on street in a 'nice' residential area with neighbourhood watch just outside the parking zones. Never have any trouble other than a few curtain twitches.
I usually park in the Braids area, 10 minute bus ride from the city centre down Morningside/Lothian Road for shopping etc, or in the Grange area if socialising nearby.

Where are you coming from? My mate leaves his X-Trail in Bathgate station car park (for free) for days on end and no one has ever touched it.
My old flat was on Gorgie just before the parking restriction starts, that used to be absolutely fine to leave cars there but it's been really busy every time I've been past recently. Definitely places round there I would avoid but plenty of others I would use.

I am coming from Holytown - trains don't run on a Sunday and some of the train prices from eg. Airdrie are ridiculous.
May well be the Omni centre. Still a saving on two return train tickets, its just the point of principle!
It shouldnt be cheaper to drive and pay 24 hour city centre parking than it is for off peak return train tickets!
