I'm putting this up as a warning and a notice to Renfrewshire Council Roads Dept.

Yesterday, for the first time in over 40 years driving I was accused of driving straight through a red light; fortunately by my wife. I told her she was talking rubbish and indignantly drove on.

On my way to the workshop this morning I almost did it again and had to lock on the anchors at the last moment risking being rear ended by the usual idiot hanging off my rear bumper.

This set of lights is on the pedestrian crossing at the start of Canal St in Paisley when approaching from the Glasgow Road end. The Council, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to fit shutters to the lights. The result is, when driving in the right hand lane it is impossible to see any of the 3 lights fitted to the stantion.

It takes virtually no imagination to visualise the mowing down of a pedestrian who quite rightly assumes the traffic is going to stop at a red light, but has no idea that the approaching vehicles cannot see it.

I reported this at 9.20 this morning and was promised a call back from the lady who is dealing with it. Nothing yet. So this serves as a public notice that they have been informed and will have to stand on the consequences of any resulting accident due to these shutters.

I get sick to death of the constant problems caused by the incompetence of the Council's Roads Department. It seems to get worse by the year, and they demonstrate a complete and utter lack of common sense and urgency when dealing with this sort of problem.

Be careful at this junction.

There's a set like this between Pumpherston and Uphall Station in West Lothian. They are done like this because there are two sets of lights close together and they want to stop drivers stopped at or approaching the first set from seeing the second set at green and mistakenly driving through the first set at red.
The people who are unobservant enough to do this though are the same people who pass through the first set then slam their brakes on at the last moment when the second set come into view.
I'm not sure if more accidents have been caused than prevented by the setup.

I've went through them at red twice so far and that was yesterday

My excuse jump up in my lorry and have a look at what we see. The shutters completely
Cover the light so don't see green or Amber apart from
The light reflection of couple shutters but still hard to see. One red shutter allows me to see the red but
By this time I ain't stopping. There too unsafe and dangerous

Result!! They've removed the shutters, but only from the red light, so at least you can see this; obviously the most important of the lights. Why on earth they left the others I have no idea. Still no reply or feedback from them, but I wholly expected that as it's simply typical of the mentality they have always displayed.
