Spotted this on a BBC Highlands site and thought of those folks living up there who find midgies the bane of their life.

Interesting reading, as we are in West Lothian and have a bad midge issue living outside in the countryside.

In the end we decided to get ourselves a Mosquito Magnet http://www.midge-terminator.co.uk/ which has helped keep the midge population down a bit although has not completely eradicated them frown

hehe Ta for that.

I built air con in the house and keep the windows closed (Just as well as it was 26C here yesterday).

Also we have loads of the Bladderworts on our driveway... well fed, obviously!

Posted very much tongue in cheek, but nice to know that there's something to get back at them . Last visit up north, I found they don't like my blood any more. Perhaps it's all the nasty anti diabetic stuff I take, but I've suggested to SJA that he might get a doctorate in anti biters if he looked at this.

lot of the reports say that midges etc find their victims from the carbon Dioxide exhaled. Now that might explain our old Highland Gents never got bothered - the midges sensed the C02, and then dropped into an alcoholic coma from the Whisky in their breath laughlaugh
