Hi all, a work colleague is struggling with his Boxster S. After 2 visits to auto electricians the side windows still have a mind of their own and are lowering at random.

So he can come out in the morning and they're down completely, while driving along they drop, but he can raise them as normal (no noise so not like when my window regulator failed) but then they'll drop again.

Weird how they sometimes stay in place for a few minutes or a few days and always go up when asked!

Any ideas before he takes it into the Porsche centre for a big bill?

This is a very common problem on Boxsters. I am pretty certain the problem will be the micro-switch that is in the roof handle mechanism. To test it out, next time the windows drop, open the roof latch and activate the switch (plastic flap) with your finger. If you can make the windows go back to their proper position then you have found the problem. A new micro switch is about £60 and will take about 20 minutes to fit. In the meantime wrap some insulating tape around the protruding lever thing that activates the switch to stop the windows dropping when you don't want them to.

Actually, reading it again if the windows are dropping all the way down then this isn't going to be the problem.

Thanks for the above but they are going down fully some of the time and 80% of the way down other times. When he first described it I thought it was just dropping slightly as most frameless doors do but it's more than that.

Very annoying when driving along the motorway in heavy rain apparently!
