My daughter is very keen on buying a new Fiat Abarth and has asked me to do the groundwork on the range/availability/deals and options currently available.

It`s been ages since I was involved in a new car purchase so I sprang into action and took a drive over to the Arnold Clark Fiat showroom in Springburn (Glasgow) today.

Now much and all as I hate any kind of shopping experience that is plagued by over enthusiastic sales people who won`t give you a moments peace and quiet as soon as you venture into their lair. This was a complete polar opposite!
Despite there being eight members of staff grouped at various desks, adjacent to the entrance, as you enter the showroom, all blue shirts and Arnold ties. Not one, absolutely not a one, even looked over far less even said Hi or in any way acknowledged me.
Not just as I walked in, but during the entire 15 minutes that I was walking about examining the stock on the showroom floor.
In fact the only interaction I had with anyone at all during my visit was when the lady at the Service desk enquired if `I was looking for a service`..... So hard not to break into full Syd James or Frankie Howerd mode at that point!!

Is this the way it works now in car dealerships? Kind of like shopping in Tesco where, until you get to the checkout, you can avoid talking to anyone.

It certainly left me totally cold and undervalued and very reluctant to give them any business at all.

Unfortunately you're kind of restricted to AC when it comes to Fiat. Corrie Motors in Inverness is the only one I can think of. There was on in Elphinestone near Edinburgh but that closed.

I bought my Abarth from AC glenrothes (non abarth dealer) but I knew the salesman. Try the Edinburgh dealership at Seafield maybe?

A few Scottish guys within Abarth Scozia went down to Research for their Compitizione's as the finance deals were miles cheaper than AC. The service seemed to be good too.

Also, I'm sure a few of the guys I know with abarths in the west would be more than happy to take you round their car etc.

I bought one just under two years ago having travelled from Ayrshire over to Edinburgh to look at a car my wife had found, we them conducted the purchase through the Fiat Ayr branch who I believe now service the Abarth, not sure on sales though.
Slightly off subject but ours is for sale as my daughter who uses the car along with her mum has recently had a baby and the value at 2 years and 16k miles is 40% down on purchase price of pre-registered car!

Thanks for all the useful information everyone. Just to touch on the residual values for a moment. As part of my research I have been to a few auctions in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Although 'cooking' versions were notably absent the sheer number of 500's and also VW Beetles that were going under the hammer for absolute buttons was astonishing. Makes you wonder just how many amazing potential purchase will be to had at auction when all those vehicles sold on PCP deals start to really filter through.

Sounds about right, most cars halve in value every 3 years or so until they hit shed money..
