Hi,

I'm being asked to goto a 2nd interview near Bellshill...

Now I would be relocating to the area but have no idea where I should avoid and where is a nice place..
Family of 5 (4,6,8), Im English but rest of family speak English but not as a 1st langauge.
Looking for plesent mid-size town or village thats not too far away commute, maybe 30 min, but how far is that in traffic??? Would like it to be a place where I can let the kids outside without them turning into Renton. (I know. I know, that was Edinburgh)

Any ideas or suggestion warmly welcome.

lots of choice in livingston and only 20-40 mins drive to bellshill depending on traffic. eliburn and murieston are the nicest areas imo.

Loads of choice. Depends on budget. South side of Glasgow inside the city, e.g. Clarkston, Giffnock, Newton Mearns, all nice areas but expect to pay a premium. Nice countryside towns such as Strathaven or Eaglesham, or plenty of development on edge of East Kilbride in Jackton.

Yes... I should have said budget... I guess 1300 a month for a 3 pref' 4 bedroom house... or am I just dreaming??

Zoopla/rightmove brought up some nice houses in Livingston / West Calder / Blackburn / Whitburn but was not sure what they are like or what the traffic would be like?? as a search here tells me the M8 can be a nightmare

Hi, I live in Bothwell (5 mins from Bellshill) lovely main street, nice bars and restaurants . Nice community feel. Uddingston is the next village again 5 mins from Bellshill , again another great village with great community spirit and a busy main street with small independent traders . Both worth a look ( in my opinion :-)

I agree with the above, Bothwell, Uddingston, and many parts of Hamilton are all plenty nice enough.. Very good public transport links to Glasgow (15mins) and Edinburgh (35mins) by train.

If you're working in bellshill and have 3 young kids, no point driving 45 mins towards Edinburgh or Glasgow every day...live close to work and then go to these places in you spare time.

Just to add to the above I'm from Blantyre & can vouch for the above all decent nice area's with the added bonus of being 10/15 mins from Bellshill. Hello fellow Lanarkshire PHers. wavey

As a side note, you may also want to consider the schooling for your kids.

North Lanarkshire Council recently announced that many of their schools were full and there was something like 5000 kids a day travelling to schools outwith their own catchment area.

So if you find a nice house near a nice school it might be worth finding out if the kids will get in it or need to be transported elsewhere to maybe a less impressive school.

What about Muirhead/Stepps/Kirkintilloch. Just a hop on the back road to get to Bellshill

Got to agree Bothwell/Uddingston are good. If you want somewhere a bit quieter Carluke is only 20mins from Bellshill. you should also get more house for your money there. The only problem with Carluke is if the clyde valley has road works etc its a long commute/diversion but a run along the clyde valley on a sunny morning makes it all worthwile.

Would concur with Bothwell should you want the community feel, given what is a generous budget in Scotland's central belt. Im born and bred in Hamilton which is a couple of minutes drive away, could get a 5 bed in a nice estate for £1k a month without a problem.
