Knockhill Experience
Discussion
Hi all,
Been bought a driving experience for Knockhill to take my car round with a teacher. Only thing is my clutch is on it's last legs and I'm not able to change it anytime soon.
So I've got a couple of options to change to, one of these three alternatives:
- Single Seater Race Experience
- Legend Race Experience
- Rally Experience
Has anyone done any of these before? Any recommendations?
Honestly, I can't decide, I've done super-car driving experience (2-3 times) and a drift experience.
All opinions welcome! Apart from fix my clutch!

legends are simply mental, look on youtube at the races. no aero, free revving engine, sequential box and all the grip is mechanical. anyone I know who has driven one has climbed out with a massive grin. I cant drive them as fat tall blokes dont fit I'm 6'4" btw so dont fit in much
Thanks for the input Alan, with that in mind I think they look really good. See if anyone else has experience of the other 2.My better half has done all of the ones at Knockhill.
The single seater she struggled with as it is a bike gearbox. Loved it for lining up the apex's though.
The Legends, simiar gearbox issues but found it less fun thatn the single seater, she said if she was on the track with 10 others wheel to wheel it would have been superb.
Rally School, not as much off roading as she would have liked.
She got more out of the Advanded Racing in the Cupras.
Then she did Drift School and got rid of her Mini Cooper S and bought a Z4 coupe....

Legends and Single seaters follow the same format. You arrive and get your briefing, then it's out for some laps in the Civic Type-R instruction cars (just got rid of the Leons). Once you've done that you get taken in a small group for a couple of laps in the people carrier with an instructor driving, one lap of what you should do, one lap of all the common mistakes. After that you'll get strapped in to the single seater or Legend and out for your laps.
This year it's new single seaters, the bike engine/gearbox'd cars are done and replaced by new single seaters with 1.8 Audi engines. Haven't tried one myself yet but feedback I've heard is they're sweet.
Rally School, you get a briefing then put in to groups of typically 3 drivers. You take it in turns to go out with the instructor for your first 5 runs through the stage going counterclockwise getting instruction on the lines etc and introducing using the handbrake (yes, the Fiestas are all plumbed with hydraulic handbrakes and they work VERY well!). Once everyone has done their run, first person is back in and go for 4 runs through the stage clockwise using a slightly different route so it's not as simple as driving the stage in the opposite direction. First 2 runs clockwise are with further instruction then the final 2 (which make up a fair bit of your overall score), the instructor will be acting as your navigator calling pace notes. Once everyone in the group has done their clockwise runs, they instructor takes you for a demo run.

If Bob Watson is there offering rally passenger laps in his Focus it's well worth a go - did this a couple of years ago when they still had the fleet of Subaru's and my old man was enjoying the rally experience we got for his birthday. I signed up, jumped in and hung on as Bob proceeded to tear up the stage whilst overtaking all of the paying customer experience drivers, including one chap who was so determined the unassuming looking little Focus was not going past him he spun out
I did the single seater and legend in November 2012 I think. Great fun - also my first track day like this.
Seat Leons were diesels, they were good, you are shown where the lines are, where to start braking etc.
Next up was the single seater -
I was not used to zero power at low revs, so stalled about 10 times just trying to drive out of the pit lane.
Motorbike gearbox, so push forwards to go down gears, pull back to go up the gears (I think!)
They feel fast and are good fun, but I was being overtaken lots on the straights. (I thought I had been black flagged, it was just a blue flag - I shared the track with a Ferrari and an Aston)
Here was me on my first attempt to drive down the straight
Big grin on my face when I came in
Next up was the legend,
Again really good fun, noticeably more power, I put it into the gravel once, but the instructors came around and helped push me back onto the track and requested that I don't floor it with them standing behind the car, but can floor it from the time I get back onto the track. They get sideways really easily, so I really had to work on driving.
As I enjoy revs, I am told I was the loudest out there, in all three cars.
As mentioned earlier by emicen the cars have changed since then, so all this has changed, but you get the idea.
You are local to me, shout if you want more details of my trip.

Thanks Peanut, very informative, I had gone to book the single seater but didn't have my voucher code on me. The more I think about it the more indecisive I get.Seat Leons were diesels, they were good, you are shown where the lines are, where to start braking etc.

I do like sliding about, but I also want to learn Knockhill.
I'll decide tonight
