Anywhere good up near Aberdeen, i'm viewing a Clio 197 in Glasgow on Tuesday, and have found this advisory using a car check service.

Offside front lower Suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)

I was hoping to use a quote to get this repaired as ammo to haggle, and would also like to know where to go for servicing, maintenance and repairs if i end up buying it.

Cheers!

It's a £50-100 job. Just needs a new ball joint. It will need tracking done afterwards as well I suppose.

ETA: unless it's a ball pin in the arm itself in which case you're looking at around £300 at worst I would guess.

They are apparently a pain in the arse on the Clio 197. Didn't stop me buying it anyway, the particular balljoint needed is £78 quid for the part and around 2-3 hours to fit assuming that the garage has facilities for press fitting parts. If not it's a new lower hub carrier (balljoint is press fitted into the base of this, however many garages refuse to do it), wishbone e.t.c and can run up near £600 for one side.

I forgot they've got upgraded wishbones, etc. I think it's TRW that make the OEM steering and suspension stuff for them (but I could be wrong), they don't do the exact same ball joint cheaper perhaps?
