why when enquiring about a car at an Arnold clark dealership I am asked to provide an electronic signature when they take my details? when asked by myself I am told they have to get authorisation from myself in order to take my details but they are a bit vague on further questioning...very curious as I heard some dealers carry out credit checks etc without asking permission and perhaps this signature gives them authorisation? really curious as to why they insist on my signature.anyone know why? thanks.

The world is going mad , I logged onto my local councils website yesterday to log a street light fault, the light outside my house hasn't worked for 6 months - I had to provide my DOB . . . WTF ! !

Problem is that they'll start banding about it's for "Data Protection" when in fact it's nothing to do with the Data Protection Act.

My guess is you are signing to say you are happy to be contacted, sent marketing, to be put on their database etc?

I bet there are T's & C's somewhere.

Another thought; whilst chatting with our sales director a few days ago he said that FCA paperwork may well be going electronic, maybe you are signing for the FCA initial disclosure document?

My initial thought would be that there is no way I'd give them my electronic signature. However, on second thoughts any document you sign can be scanned and they have it anyway.

However they really need to let you know why they need it, and I personally, would only give it if I was buying....and that would be at another dealer.

i hear of people having ordered cars by the dealer copying their signature onto forms but despite arnold clarks poor reputation i don't believe for one second that their system would be abused in this way.having been to other dealers they don't require this so what are arnold clark doing differently?

This is all part of their back office (paperless?) functions.

I have had to sign numerous times over the years, in the off chance they are going to order a car for me, (which is an utterly ludicrous suggestion) can I have an M4 please, PCP white will do, I do not want any of that special order Red stuff with the swirl marks...
