Anyone know why Police patrol in the Echt area?
They're armed too.

They have been doing it for about 5 years, they are permanently based at the gas plant at garlogie. But 2 do a loop via echt, along the edge of dunecht estates then back to the plant. Passing my parents house every few hours.

As said it's for the pipeline pumping station between Echt and Garlogie. Irony is, you wouldn't have known it was there until they flood lit the place a year or so ago. Now it glows through the woods.

When I first moved out here I heard about it and went for a looksee. Having found it, and it not being very interesting, I parked in a lay by down the road and took the dogs a walk. With hindsight that was maybe a bit naive but came back to a marked car doing checks on my registration... Obviously take security pretty seriously.

It's a decent sized plant, we did the inspections on some of the big gas lines when it was being built.

As above, it's for the gas pipeline station. Big place, have a look on google satellite view!

My friend didn't know it existed when we were discussing it, despite just living a few miles out. Just last year we drove out one night after the cinema and drove past slowly for a look, within two minutes the 4x4 was on our tail and followed us for a few miles.

Not entirely sure how much protection it offers, as the car is regularly in Westhill as they go to the local station for shift changes or lunch I assume, so wouldn't take much to work out their shift patterns!!

The OP read my mind - I recently moved to the Echt area (from London I may add which is something of a change, but for the better!) and I see the 4x4 patrol like clockwork. I assumed it was part of the campaign they seem to be running to catch speeders, but given the recent weather was starting to wonder if it was an "easy afternoon" for them!

Why they have to go on the patrol route I'll never know.
Just man the front gate.

It's a good sized station, as you can see compared to Garlogie!
We spent a busy few weeks doing the radiography on the heavy wall gas lines. The last week was a 122 hour marathon to get it all finished off.

They’re MOD police and they don’t just patrol around it in vehicles there’s armed officers there all the time on foot aswell and they take security quite seriously. Although they’re MOD police they have all the same powers and jurisdiction as police Scotland.
