Evening gents!

I've been on PH for a while now but have only just started posting.

I've been advised by the members on the Aston group to pop over here and ask if there's any owners local to Glasgow who own a V8 Vantage and fancy meeting for a coffee somewhere to talk about highs and lows of ownership?

It'd be interesting to meet a fellow enthusiast and just hear their thoughts about living with an Aston before I take the plunge.

David.

I had one for a few years from new. (I'm nowhere near Glasgow!)

..but for what it's worth.

Bad points:

Aston were not good at customer service when there were any issues.
You have to get right up the rev range to make it come alive.
Running costs are very high. Servicing costs a joke.
It's swift, but not that swift.
Sat Nav was naff.
Not a lot of luggage space.

Good points:

We'll take for granted the looks!
Interior was bloody lovely
When you DO get up the rev range it goes like the clappers and sounds fab.
Very decent grip - near 50/50 weigh distribution and low c.o.g. keeps it planted.
Decent Hi Fi.
Unlike many expensive cars, Astons get much more of an easy ride from the 'I hate you rich bds' brigade.
(Try getting out of a junction in a 911! wink

In short - gotta do it once if you can afford the fee and the running costs.

Since I suggested you tried over here.. smile

My 4.3 V8V returned just under 19 mpg. I don't know how much better than that you could get. Considering the type of car I didn't think that was too bad.

Servicing. You can almost half the servicing costs for the same servicing work if you come out of the main dealer network and use an independent. You need to decide whether you think that will impact on resale or not. (for what it is worth, I have recently traded my car and the fact that the last service was at an independent wasn't even raised as a issue. That may not always be the case)

Don't know if the sat nav improved after my 07 car but almost anything was better than mine.

They are very classy. I didn't have a single negative reaction to mine.

Only thing I would mention is that on your other thread you mentioned liking a particular car which was a "rare" colour and had "interesting" wheels. I think in "Yes, Minister" they would call that a "Brave" choice smile

I used to use mp supercars for servicing the db9 which i believe is now pk supercars http://www.pksupercars.com

Murray aston used to charge £1k for a service and those guys did it for around £400 and a far better service you got from them, they would let you see what needed doing if any extras needed while on the ramp.

+1 on PK - they've just moved to spiffy new premises in Elphinstone. I've deliberately not renewed the warranty on my 911 due to ah, 'mixed' results from OPC and PK will be doing the servicing from now on.

Moved from a 997 to a V8V and now own a V12V. Never had any issues living with them in terms of being much different from a "normal" car. The V8V was a daily driver and used for commuting in heavy traffic. Not spent much time in the V12V but it's easier to drive if anything, being manual instead of sportshift.

Servicing costs are a consideration but the costs vary greatly and can be related to mileage as well. Last years service on the V12V cost nothing like 1k at Leven Cars (ex-Murrays). An AM service record can affect the resale value greatly but you have to weigh that up against the value and age of your car. Personally I think it's worth the extra for the AM service.

Warranty is important. I had a new clutch put in my sportshift V8V under warranty which saved me a lot of money. Apart from that I've never used the warranty but still paid to extend it each year. Paying for brake pads on the V8V made my eyes water. Here's hoping I never have to replace the CCB's!

You wont regret buying one, they are great cars and there's a certain pleasure to be derived from the relatively understated looks.

It doesnt make that much of a difference if its a good indy the looks after the car most times much beter than main stealer and as said by another poster pk supercars is top notch as it was when mp supercars.

Here is hr owens price list the expensive one is always the 70k service as thats around £1500 for the v12,be interesting to see what they charge for the plugs, the one service i did get at murray am i supplied the oil as i took offence to them wanting £180 for it when i could buy same stuff for £60 in halfords.

Hate being ripped off :-)

Must admit, that has not been my experience at all..

I've not had many issues with either of mine, but any I have had, have been dealt with very well. I presume this is a dealer specific problem..
Running costs I would class as surprisingly good for what it is. Service was £600, and four OEM tyres were £650 fitted on my coupe. 23mpg average. My Evora was cheaper servicing but more expensive on tyres.
Agree it not being the quickest, but its quick enough. More low down torque would be ideal.
Sat Nav was terrible!
Not a lot of luggage space in the roadster, coupe is better but just an awkward shape for big suitcases..
