Over the last few months I noticed some resurfacing of the roads in Glasgow with a "very smooth" tarmac. A good example is Barrhead Road between Silverburn and Pollokshows. It looks like the nice tarmac you see in southern Europe. Considering the weather in Scotland I thought the tarmac has to be "rough" to give some resistance and grip.

Any one knows if this tarmac a new technology which is both smooth and gripy or it is just another cheep stuff that won't last till next spring?

cheers

I'm one of the guys that has been delivering it

It's new tech that still offers the same grip available but most of all drainage. The tar absorbs
The water more and allows it to flows easier to the drains and hard wearing so should stay smooth
Longer than the asphalt tar

Good to hear it is good in rain. Hope it was tested for black ice as well.

I hope it copes better with the rain than the M74 extension does, would anybody with much more knowledge than myself know why that road is so bad when it rains, I have never seen any motorway anywhere that is so bad.

Interesting to see this tarmac didn't last for a few months. The tarmac of east-bound section of Barrhead road mentioned above was replaced by the traditional "rough" stuff.
