Morning all,

Off to Inverness next week with work for 3 days, staying in the Pentahotel (which I think is fairly central?). I am taking my local team out for dinner on one of the evenings, and never having been there I wondered if anyone could offer any pointers/recommendations?

Any cuisine considered, nothing off limits, cost no issue, I just want somewhere 'good'.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Plenty chippers in Inverness, you'll be fine. DFMB for dessert!

Fantastic Turkish food here

http://www.highlandaspendos.co.uk

Or if you fancy an Indian this is by far the best in Inverness, they don't serve alcohol but you can take your own and there is a shop right next door with plenty chilled

Enjoy the few days!

We were up a couple of weeks ago. Best meal we had was at www.riverhouseinverness.co.uk

Would also recommend www.kitchenrestaurant.co.uk

It might be best to book before hand. We were turned away from 3 places as they were fully booked on a Wednesday evening!

I always found the Mustardseed a bit disappointing. It is OK but not as good as it the reviews suggest.

In fairness my assessment is also coloured by the fact that I once watched one of the more senior waitresses sneeze (explosively) all over the cutlery basket and then happily continue to lay the tables next to me with said cutlery. She did not even blink - well except when she sneezed.

Mustard Seed is great. The sister restaurant across the river was poor and wouldn't go back. (Kitchen Brasserie)

The White House is decent too with great cocktails.

Another good one to try if you can travel would be the Culloden Moor Inn (Keppoch Bar). Fantastic food. large portion sizes and good service for an average cost. It is bit out of town but worth it.

The Riva Pizzeria is good and not too expensive - they serve pasta too, and their Arancini starter is good. It's upstairs from the Riva Restaurant, and while I haven't eaten there I presume it would also be good.

It's on the Western bank of the Ness where it crosses the B861 in the middle of town.

If your budget is not to restricted and you want to be assured of quality food in pleasant surroundings within walking distance of your hotel then I would highly recommend the following.....

http://www.rocpoolrestaurant.com/

http://www.glenmoristontownhouse.com/brasserie.sht...

I eat in both regularly and the food and service is always very good.

Just back from the Kitchen Brasserie - which was OKish - service OK, food was totally forgetful, ambiance OK, and the price OK, but probably too high for what it was, nothing really of note about the place at all and wouldn't be rushing to go back.

Maybe try Mustard Seed tomorrow!

Thanks once again for taking the time to suggest options.

If you didn't like the food at the Kitchen it's unlikely you will like the food at it's sister restaurant the Mustard seed !!

If you enjoy decent food then try one of the restaurants in my last post smile

Chez Roux at the Rocpool hotel (someone above linked to the hotel). One of the Roux family places. I've eaten there twice, stayed at the hotel for wedding anniversary a couple of years ago too. The food is exceptional, not cheap but worth the outlay if you like your grub.

Alas, work called and I had to get back to London sooner than expected, so flew back this afternoon. Enjoyed my time there, we'll try one or two of the other suggestions next time.

BTW - the PentaHotel was strange. Looked fab downstairs, sort of boutiquey-ish, but the 'scent' they spray everywhere was over-powering, and the rooms were very basic indeed. No parking either. I believe it's chain, and I won't be rushing to avail myself of their services again.

And another BTW, I had to hire a car, as last minute changes in my schedule meant I had to spend time between Nairn and Inverness. All they had left was a Peugeot 208, in orange, which was an utterly hateful car, and devoid of any quality in any way. Dangerously slow.

And another BTW - why is that Rose Street multi-storey (for it is there that I had to park due to the PentaHotel having no fking parking) so bloody difficult to drive around? And why wouldn't it let me pay with a corporate Amex?

Anyway, lovely place, back soon, different hotel, better food, and a reasonable hire car booked in advance.

I've always found the Mustard Seed to be better than the Kitchen. Sister in ownership only rather that kitchen staff I guess.
