I live in Linlithgow and have just recently purchased a new set of 18" wheels for my 986 boxster. The car originally had the standard 17's on it and a while ago i installed coilovers but i never ever got the car aligned afterwards.

So now i'm looking for somewhere that will do 4 wheel alignment on the car now that it has the bigger wheels and coilovers done! I've read on various places that the 986 isnt the easiest to align but i've also heard that its just like most other cars.... very conflicting stories... i have a good shop in bo'ness i used for my little polo gti and it was perfect but if its the case that it needs a "specialist" then i would like to take it somewhere proper to have it done.

any help is greatly appreciated!

much appreciated!
progrip have recently started turning away cars (my brother tried to get his drift car set up and was prepared to pay above the odds to have it set up for drifting but was turned away) so i wouldnt use them...
CLM i think i have heard about recently but if i remember there was something about the new owners, be it not as good as previous or something along those lines....
i may give ecosse a call and speak to them, EK is a fair old trek for me but if its worth it i may try them!

thanks again!

I'd go for CLCM personally.

Unless you know for certain it has changed hands since it was the one bloke that run it. Seems odd they'd keep his name.

i have a funny feeling one of my buddies asked last week on facebook about alignment in edinburgh and someone mentioned CLCM but said it had changed hands because the original owner was getting on. i'm not saying they arent good now but i just remember someone saying they had changed hands... unless i'm getting confused between them and another shop! i would go back to find out but i dont have my phone at the moment...
they might still be worth a call though even if they have changed!

He doesn't always pick up on the first ring as it literally is one bloke. I'm not saying he's not got rid, I'm just surprised.

It was always an odd sight to see high end cars parked outside a small garage in a dodgy estate. But his laser alignment was state of the art. Or at least it was last time I was there in about 2013, I suspect that is still there regardless of ownership.

He was always the cheapest as well as he didn't take the piss with the costs per adjustment.

In the summer I purchased a 2009 S4 saloon and wanted to get to the bottom of a shimmy in the car when driving and under braking. I purchased in Glasgow and live in Edinburgh, but work occasionally in Stirling / Perth too. So the central belt was open for options.

CLCM told me everything was out of whack but that they could not correct things as a rear camber adjuster was seized. I sent the car back to the dealer who did their own check, but said it was fine. I got them to balance the wheels too, which they do with a hub mounted machine rather than a spigot.

I then tried ProGrip in Stenhousemuir on the basis that they said they were independent, had a Hunter Alignment machine, and had equipment to try to loosen the offending adjuster. Very clean facility, very efficient and reasonable costs. He got a little more adjustment and go things practically in tollerance across the board (the camber adjuster wasn't perfect, I'm left with a smidge too much camber on one wheel).

CLCM take brand new cars from the main dealers in Sighthill so they can't be doing too bad a job. But I would also recommend ProGrip too. Key thing is to get a print of the before and after.

Stewart Roden motors is 5 mins from linlithgow, he has the best equipment available for alignment and he's a Ferrari and Porsche specialist, he does my car and it always comes back perfect.

I Believe CLM has been bought over as Willie has retired .I did hear some say not as good now but no personnel experience. Did get work done by the previous owner who had an excellent reputation . Sorry no contact number

I didn't realise Stewart roden was open for the public! I actually live in a little town literally 2 minutes down the road so that would be handy! Another place I'll call and enquire about! Thanks!

You're welcome, check out his website for more information. I dare say his services are by appointment only but that's understandable given the standard of work he does.

Would try Craig Moncrief Cars in Sighthill in Edinburgh.

Craig was the service manager for Murray's Lotus and has now set up on his own. His ethos to customer service is second to none. Not too sure if he has an alignment machine but he will point you in the correct direction if not.

I believe that Murray's Lotus stopped using CLCM once Willie left.

If you are willing to travel a little further Kenneth Brown Motor Engineers in Hilington, Glasgow is by far the best place to have alignment done.

He previously did my friend's 986 and it was such a big improvement that I went and bought a Boxster! Mine's just been done, and it's excellent.

Kenny was saying not many places really know how to set up the Boxster correctly.
