It would appear my wee Aldi compressor may have bitten the dust. It's not had a hard life, but was sanding down project Sprint last night, and the compressor would not switch off or reach its pressure. I checked the oil level (it was maybe a bit high) but it was a bit smoky. Shut off , let it cool. I have drained the oil off and it is a bit black.

If I put fresh oil in is it worth restarting it up? Otherwise what could it be and any recommendations as to who could fix it?

The compressor not cutting out and not getting up to pressure are almost certainly related. Check for leaks and possibly a passing relief valve. The compressor being a bit smoky is probably as it is working so hard to get to pressure. An oil change wouldn't do any harm but will not solve the problem.

Will check the pressure relief valve at the weekend. Hopefully it will be OK. It was working rather hard to be honest. Have also drained any condensation.
Thanks for your help.

Hmmm, no leaks that I can see. Won't go above 4 bar and doesn't shut off...... Any other ideas before I refer it to a repairer?
