I've never had points but thought it worth asking for clarity, have you been sent a notice for speeding in the 40 zone and if so, do you know the exact speed you have been caught at? Or perhaps have you seen a camera van while doing somewhere in the region of 60 down that bit of road?

Not me, my son. Sent a notice for 60 in the 40 area, so no argument. Just wondered how many points he can expect since he's only held a licence
for 15 months.

I'm not a lawyer but I believe the length he's held his licence shouldn't matter when considering how many points he'll get (especially for a fixed points notice if that's what he has got) but I believe there is a 6 point limit for the first 2 years. It's not something I know much about but it sounds like 60 in a 40 is just within the margin for 3 points. Hopefully somebody who actually knows what they're talking about can confirm but if you want the number of a good solicitor I'd be happy to PM you details of somebody I know who dealt with a friend's case.

There is a six point limit, that's what he's worried about. Thanks for the offer of a Solicitor's details, but we have a friend who's one of the top in Scotland. He's on holiday at
the moment, hence my request for anyone's experience.

One thing that does come to mind is has he been summonsed to appear in court or is it a fixed penalty?

Neither yet. Standard letter of intention to prosecute asking for details of driver at the time of offence.

Likely be 3 points and £100 fine and he will need to tell his insurers and could mean a increase in the premium at next time of renewal.
