How quick can I get out of Wishaw?

Does anyone commute Glasgow to Wishaw by car? Google maps reckons it's a 35 minute journey (from near the Expressway via M74 to somewhere in the middle of Wishaw), does that sound about right?
Would be heading to Wishaw in the mornings and back to Glasgow in the evenings, so hopefully this is the opposite way to most commuters so wouldn't get stuck in too much traffic. Or is that wish(aw)ful thinking?

The m74 at the Raith and the Motherwell slip road are always busy, the road works cause a lot of traffic and one accident can ruin the full area.
M8 traffic at Newhouse slip road, can back backed up on to lane 1 of the M8.
Eurocentral and Chapelhall can be similar. The Chapelhall junction is my local one, walk the road past it every morning and it's getting closed both sides in a couple of weeks which will further throw the area in to a mess and you have either Newhouse or eurocentral to use.
From 7am to past 9 all the roads in that area are busy.
Also, Wishaw? Ouch.

Not very PH, but is taking the train an option? Used to be a direct service, but you'd now need to go Partick/Hyndland - Central, walk up the stairs then there's a fairly fast train from Central - Lanark/Edinburgh via Carstairs that stops at Wishaw. Journey planner reckons 56-59 minutes, but you might be able to cut a bit off by having a tighter change at Central. Might save your sanity vs being stuck in those roadworks.
So the gist is:
a) whichever route is taken, it could be busy at peak times

Train would take too long, and then there's getting from the station to place of work at the other end.

It's not actually me (scoping out the commuting for a friend as I used to drive Stirling to East Kilbride so have used some of the motorways around that area) but they said 'outskirts', hence why train would be an extra hassle. Don't know the company, I'm guessing Wishaw isn't that big though.Twilkes said:

"Not quick enough" would be my answer to the thread title.Wishaw isn't big but is blessed with absolutely no decent road links anywhere nearby. If "outskirts" means out towards Newmains/A73 it might not be too bad, but if it means trapped to the south or nestled in the bosom of Motherwell then Christmas Island would be an easier place to commute to.
I commute from law to glasgow down the clyde valley, m74 the m8. It takes me about half an hour. It can take a bit longer with the roadworks just now.
I leave at around 7am and leave work around 5.30 to 6pm. The traffic isn't bad most days. But get nearer to peak times and your looking at around the hour mark.

The quickest way in and out is by train. Two an hour and takes 35 minutes. Depends where you live in glasgow though as that could add time to getting to a station.
At present there is no really quick way in and out. M8 at peak times is too busy. Quickest way would depend on which part of town you lived in but probably the M74 and through Motherwell.
If you could define 'outskirts' of Wishaw I could possibly help more as worked there for 45 years!

Train is probably the best bet, if the workplace is on the outskirts of Wishy then park the car at the station or buy a station snotter specifically for the task.At present there is no really quick way in and out.
