I'm looking for some help with my Jeep Grand Cherokee, with some electrical gremlins
Local garage has all but given up, and the main dealer didn't seem much more confident

Glasgow/ East Ren area

Thanks !

Call Keith 07836 599633.

Based in Kirkintilloch but he's mobile, been able to diagnose all sorts of random problems for me in the past, very reasonable too.

I replied to your topic in the Yank forum, i've just bought one in the past month so had been doing a bit of reading on their "Issues"

I've read on some of the American jeep forums that a duff battery can cause the symptoms you describe.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/best-crd-replac...

If your not so lucky then it might be the PCM

I've copied this from another forum

You can do the following for no-cost:
1. Leave it sit overnight and check the battery voltage before you start it. Typical voltage is ~13.2 V.
2. Start & run engine. Should read ~14.3 V (above idle) as alternator and voltage regulator take over.
3. Go to Sears and ask for a BATTERY CAPACITY TEST. This is different than voltage. If battery is marginal, it will show up.

You can also borrow a code reader to see if any DTC's are present. However, because they may be secondary level, it may take the dealer's StarScan (or specialty reader) to find them.

These WK's behave badly on a weak battery. Many of the functions you cited as inoperative go through the PCM. If your battery is original, it's definitely time to spring for a new one (once the root cause of your problems is established). If the PCM and other modules do not receive sufficient voltage, they will act stangely. I believe ~10.7 V is the minimum it needs to power up.

Hope it is as simple as a new battery.

Terzo,

thanks for that, appreciated. I took the battery out last night, and left it charging today.

i'll give it a shot this evening, and see if anything improves.

its a recent battery, but I've been using the Jeep less and less, so it may be as simple as a low-ish battery

Hmmm
Put the battery back in, and it's still the same

Engine starts first time, no problem

But, practically nothing else works- no lights, indicators, stereo, blower or air con

What's working? Electric seats, electric mirrors, dash lights, and hazard lights...

Checked all the fuses under the bonnet, all ok

Any other ideas welcome
