Hi all,
Heading up the A9 from Edinburgh to Dornoch today. Are there any delays/ roadworks that would substantially hold us up. And give me sn excuse to take the tomintoul road?
Looking for local knowledge rather, bbc site doesnt show any trouble.
Cheers
Marcus

Did trip down from Sutherland to Glasgow last night. All clear and no delays. Only thing was a coned off lane southbound on the long dual carriageway stretch just south of drumochter. No delays as traffic very light. Didn't remember seeing similar conework when heading north on the Friday.

I’m heading up to Dufftown next week and haven’t been on the A9 for a few years – is there average speed cameras now?

Yes. From Dunblane northwards. They cover the single carriageway sections. The dualled sections are supposedly not covered.

The oddest effect is the drop in speeds on the DC sections - those were the bits I recall people really hammering along and now there are many who seem to stick at 60.

The other effect is the HGVs - they are allowed to do 50. The averaging cameras mean they stick to it.

If you're using the A95 to get to Dufftown then the last few times I've been on it during weekdays there have been camera vans tucked in on the side of the straights.

Dualled sections are covered by ASC's between Dunblane and Perth btw.

My surprisingly quiet journey up the A93 a few weeks ago was spoilt somewhat by a fair bit of tarmac redressing (of the dump tar down, then gravel, then leave it until it beds in type). Not sure it is still going on, but more than a little frustrating when you have an open road.

Worth checking roadworks on this and also any events on at Braemar if taking the "scenic route" alternative to the A9.

There were bits of surface dressing on Friday evening too, looked as if it was an ongoing process. There were also warning signs about overnight road closures, from 20:00 onwards, north of Bridge of Cally, but I can't remember the details.

Never thought of trafficscotland - doh.
The journey was fine, slow in places allowing for decent averaging at overtakes. TTLs south of Pitlochry and a convoy control north of Aviemore. All good though.
Cheers
