Assistant Chief Constable Kate Thomson of Police Scotland said:
As part of our investigation into this incident, it has come to light that a call was made to police late on Sunday morning regarding a car which was reported as being off the road.

For reasons currently being investigated, that report was not followed up at the time. Following a call this morning, officers attended the scene.

Absolutely horrible situation. Surely Police need to be held accountable for their actions here?

This is tragic and I am wondering why the Police released this element of the information so quickly, basically announcing it all at the same time.

A terrible situation indeed. The car must have well off the road so as not to be visible but can't be many places where that is possible on the M9, which is usually pretty busy. They must have been very very unlucky. Sad situation.

Police Scotland are under investigation. Unfortunately they are the ones investigating themselves!

No they're not. The investigation into what happened is being carried out by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner who is independent of the Police.

Don't know if it's the case here but I usually find these overseeing organisations are usually staffed by ex industry people. That's probably more help than hinder but it does bring into question just how independent they are.

So are you a real policeman or not? Posting drivel maybe, going by the above comments?

I joined the M9 at Linlithgow this morning on my way to Stirling. There was a Kord Ka in the trees just past the slip road, but with police tape around it, so they were aware and had marked the scene. I did my business in Stirling, took about 40 minutes, and was about to join the roundabout at the Stirling services to go on to the M9 south when a dark grey, unmarked police BMW came hurtling round the roundabout with sirens blaring and lit up. He was 2 cars ahead of me when he hit the slip road. When I got down the slip road he was nearly out of sight, so on his way to anemergency at speed. Didn't see him again until Linlithgow. He was stopped beside the Ford Ka, blue lights still flashing but both officers waiting in the car, so no real emergency then. A bit of ever-reaction given last weeks situation and emergency lights and high speeds to wait for a recovery vehicle?
