Thirlestane Castle Classic Car Show
Discussion
Did anyone go to Thirlestane yesterday?
What a fantastic show! I haven't been going to Classic shows for many years, before kids came along, Mrs Chimp and I were active members in the Edinburgh MG Club and went to most shows throughout the year.
Yesterday we decided to go to Thirlestane for the first time (we used to go when it was at Mellerstain) and had a fantastic day.
Caught up with some old friends on the Edinburgh MG stand, saw some lovely cars, I was particularly taken by some Mk1/Mk2 Escorts and an HSR Chevette.
We then stumbled upon the Sporting Bears Dream Rides area and I decided to plump for a passenger ride in the Ultima Can-Am, owned by Mark who can be found around PH from time to time. Turns out we knew each other from VAG forum days.
What a machine! Around 650 brake in something weighing less than a tonne - crazy fast car and the noise, wow! Gorgeous looks as well - what a fantastic 20-25 minutes I had out on the road, I returned looking like a kid in a candy shop
I then noticed another mate from a while back, Chris, was parked next to the Ultima in his V8 powered Westfield so I went out for a quick spin in that as well - another cracking motor, bit windier than the Ultima (which keeps you cool, it was kinda warm on the first drive). Another great experience.
I saw some lovely cars in the Sporting Bears enclosure, Lambos, TVRs, something old, something new, amazing stuff.
I will try and upload some photos later tonight if I get the time.
The only downside is my face looks like a freshly skelped erse today as I never realized quite how sunny it was yesterday!

Was good show had my cortina and f150 on the mtoc stand. Show gets bigger every year
Would like to find marks pal with the White ultima that was there
Passed me on way home and was smoking from engine bay quite at alarming rate
But couldn't catch to point out to him
I love the sporting bears and it's the vipers that do it for me sadly tight on cash so couldn't enjoy
A ride

Third year for us Corvette people and another superb event, well worth the trip from Tyneside. Especially pleasing for me as I met up with the Scot who sold me his Corvette 8 years ago, great to catch up and show that his former pride and joy was still being looked after as previously. Mind you I rather liked his latest Corvette.
Excellent show, well done guys.

dont worry, just a small hole in the oil filter, blowing some oil onto the exhaust, he got home all safeWould like to find marks pal with the White ultima that was there

Thanks for the concern BillyWhizz, I'm the culprit with the smoking Ultima, it started leaking on the way to the show so I knew all about it and although it wasn't a lot of oil that was leaking it certainly made a heck of a lot of smoke.
It's just one of those running in teething troubles, but it's nice to know there's folks out there looking out for you.
Send me a PM and introduce yourself and if we're both at another show during the summer, I'll take you for a wee run in it if you like.
Pete
