Why is the M8 so busy heading into Edinburgh?
Discussion
Is there any reason why the M8 has been stop/start from Newbridge later than usual this week? I usually work until 6pm (except Mondays, no one does Mondays!) which would see me miss the worst of the traffic and get from Broxburn to Gorebridge in about 40-45 mins, this week it's been well past 7pm, even last night was as busy! Do I need to work even longer now to save up for a Helicopter?
Hint:
Take the Newbridge exit then, at the Newbridge roundabout itself, turn hard left and head into the small industrial estate. Turn left straight after the petrol station and follow that road back under the motorway, past the quarry and right to its end. That gets you to the A71, which will then get you to the bypass much faster than sitting in traffic on the M8 all the way from the Newbridge exit onwards. Unless you get stuck behind a bus. Or a tractor.

I sometimes went that way after my nightshifts, though I tend to forget about it until I'm joining the back of the queue on the M9>M8 slip road! It's nights again next week, where I've found that the A8 up to Gogar is the best option for unknown reasons, I'd have thought it would be a nightmare!

You'd be better off leaving the motorway at Livingston, heading down the dual carriageway onto the A71 rather than doubling back on yourself.Take the Newbridge exit then, at the Newbridge roundabout itself, turn hard left and head into the small industrial estate.
