I'm looking to get a second hand gearbox I've bought refurbished before swapping it for the duff one in my car at the moment. Now, I haven't seen this gearbox yet so I only have a vague idea of what it may need, but at a guess I'd say seals, bearings and selector forks as a minimum.

Need somebody who knows what they are doing and aren't going to charge me the cost of a new gearbox to rebuild this one. I also need them to inspect the box and tell me if there's any other issues that may need addressed before putting it in the car for another 100k.

I'm based in Aberdeen but I don't mind travelling to the Central Belt, anybody suggest somewhere who won't make a bodge job and is trustworthy?

I haven't used them personally but I've heard these guys recommended many times over the years - based in Glasgow close to M74.

I had a tour of their factory with the BMW Club, it's very, very impressive.

How impressive? They sell re-manufactured ZF torque converters to ZF. bow

Friendly bunch too. smile

Just to conclude this thread, ended up using a company called Neil Engineering in Glengarnock to rebuild my gearbox. Excellent service, guys knew what they were talking about and happy to make suggestions about what would be the best course of action. Not cheap but they were in the middle of the 8 companies I phoned for labour rates so clearly not expensive either.

All in all very pleased with the quality of service!

On a side note, another shout out for Dave at Central Garage in Glenkindie, he managed to change the clutch, flywheel and gearbox on the car in a day and let me pick it up later that night. All done to his usual high standard, parts available to inspect if required and a bit of banter when I dropped the car off and when I picked it up.

Anybody needing somebody who knows what they're doing and doesn't charge a small fortune (I'm looking at pretty much every other garage in City and Shire!) I would recommend Dave in a heartbeat
