Edinburgh - Camerons Toll?
Discussion
Hi Guys
looking at heading to Edinburgh at the end of the month for a couple of nights (2 nights 3 days) break, I've been before and stayed relatively central, this time however i'm trying to keep the costs down.
The Travelodge at Cameron Toll is what I've been looking at, mainly because its only £90 for 2 nights plus I don't have to pay £15 a day parking in the city centre as that has free parking there too.
Couple of Questions:
Does anyone have any experience of the Travelodge at Cameron toll?
Is it a safe area to walk back to on a night after a day in the centre?
I went to the Zoo and castle etc. last time, any other must do's from a locals perspective?
thanks in advance

Cameron toll is about 2 or 3 miles of perfectly straight road from Princes Street.
It should be perfectly safe to walk back and forth, obviously no promises though.
No experience of the travel lodge itself except I used to use the carpark as a cut through to beat the traffic, now they have a barrier!
Anyway enjoy your stay.

That's not a bad location at all - straight down Newington Road/Minto Street from town.
It is a bit of a trek though if you're walking - i'd advise getting a bus to/from there. It's on a main bus route and is well served by both day and night buses. It's only 1.50 for a single ticket during the day so shouldn't break the bank.

As for stuff to do, depends on what you are into!
What about the Royal Yacht Britannia? A quick bus/taxi ride down to Ocean Terminal - do some retail therapy when you are there!
Go for a walk around Holyrood Park and have a laugh at the Scottish Parliament building - you could even climb Arthur's Seat if you are feeling fit - great views from the top.
Take a drive out to the Forth Road Bridge at South Queensferry to see the new road bridge being built - they have a visitors centre IIRC.
Museum of childhood on the royal mile?
I can recommend the Ghost Bus Tour one evening if you can get booked - takes roughly 1.5 hours and is a good laugh, leaves from outside the museum in Chambers Street.
There are some good art galleries including one on Princes St iteslf, at the bottom of the Mound, there is also the gallery of modern art on Belford Road and you could walk along the water of Leith on the way there/back if the weather is nice.
Oh, and there are a couple of pubs in Edinburgh as well if you fancy a tipple

Used to live in that area.
Safe area to walk in at night. As above very easy to get into town on the bus. £6-7 for a taxi on the way back if late.
5 minutes walk up the road are a number of pubs in Newington. The Old Bell, No1, John Leslie's and Reverie if you want a starter before heading into town.
