Ingliston circuit - rarely used and don't do track days - he the opportunity to drive there once last year but missed it.

There's another quarter mile up in Fife, up past Crail but the name escapes me.

there's Doune hill, (near Stirling) Fintray hill, (near Aberdeen), Forestburn hill, (between Edinburgh and Glasgow) Golspie (near Wick), Alford has a wee track near the museum.

only alford can be hired out i think, i lot of folk use the full loop (not very long) for testing.

the rest are all used for hillsclimbs and sprints

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

Did Ingliston stop doing track days from lack of cars turning up? Are there now more drivers in Scotland willing to pay to go along?

The owner(s) of Ingliston didn't have the money to keep the track up to date with safety regulations IIRC.

I remember watching cars go round the track at Ingliston at a Vauxhall Performance day back in the late 80's (it was when they launched the Carlton Thundersaloon) - fun watching an Imp-engined Darian(sp?) wasting a 3 door Cosworth around the tight track

Ingliston had big trees and hooge lumps of armco next to the track , and they used to do bike racing there too! My mate still holds the Ingliston sidecar lap record (as the passenger) in a Honda RSC outfit. And as sidecars don't race there anymore, it's a 'forever' record!

And also going back a few years don't forget Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy - used to do bikes and sidecars there too. More big trees right next to the track, but spectacular racing.

Also Crimmond. Don't know what happened to that track, but I think it was maybe karts only.

The armco has gone (replaced by big hooses)

We were only allowed to go flat out on part of the track hence the slow bits.

Many thanks for Ingliston clip. Wonderfully nostalgic as I used to do SMRC trackdays (not called that then?) at Ingliston in late 60s/early 70s in various cars - MG 1300, Lotus Elan, Alfetta.

Note that East Fortune is now a goer as a circuit again as the bike club who run it have re-surfaced all the corners - good car trackday there last year - to be repeated this May - see Javelin trackday site.

I believe that it was because the RHS people wanted motor racing out and wouldn't let Tom Brown, who had the rights to run races, to make the necessary modifications. Allegedly.

Don't remember quite that far back but I did see a lot of great racing at Ingliston. The Darian's and Imp specials that were still racing in 90, 91 made quite an impression... been a sportscar fan ever since. Watching a huge field of FF1600s 4 wheel drifting through Caravan on an opening lap for the first time was pretty impressive too...

There is a circuit at Edzel, as well as the 1/4 mile drag, the problem is that a bike club appear to have exclusive rights to it's use.

I spoke with the son of one of the organisers and it appears that having undertaken some resurfacing to allow the bike races to be run they are reluctant to allow cars, which they think will have a detrimental effect on the resurfaced track.

Could be one for the future though.

Ahh, Doune!
Wanted my ashes spread there.
What a fantastic hill to drive.
Used to belt my old cars up there only to be well & truely trounced by the locals who removed their brains and placed them into a bucket at the bottom of the hill before setting off.
Now desperately trying to remember th name of the local "Clubmans" driver who used to drive up as if his car was floating, never actually going in a straight line, just drifting all the time.
Last time I drove it, it seemed to be deteriorating, as if the tree roots were coming to the surface.
Memories.......
I'll be having nightmares about Oak Tree now!

I still reckon Graeme jnr is the person whose come closest to 'mastering' Doune. Kenny is very impressive, but the sheer speed Graeme carries into corners is just breathtaking.

JP: didn't buy a caterham, bought an Elise 135 instead.

Ritchie ?

There were/are two Ritchie brothers from Stonehaven, both had Ginettas I believe, Gordon Ritchie was out at Alford at the end of last season in his Ginetta.
