Hi all,

I recently as a gift got a three supercar driving experience gift from the other half.

The track options in Scotland are East Fortune or Grampian. To be honest having looked at youtube they don't look like the best of tracks.

There are a couple of videos of East Fortune that look like this.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DWCLm_b8Xo

The cars look like they're going unbelievably slow. I doubt they're hitting third gear. If the track at Grampian is the transport museum one then that also looks quite tame. The closest option in England is York.

Has anyone been on one of these experience days and where do you recommend going?

Are my expectations of what it will offer just too high? I thought I might get to lap a real circuit rather than what looks like driving around cones on big car park.

Thoughts?

I know I think I could go round that 'track' faster in my diesel estate!

If you get the option, stay in the Atom, it looked the only fun thing that they had and it was able to rev and accelerate really quickly, giving it great acceleration and speed.

I was at an event at the Air strip next door some months ago, I let rip in the M5 in 500 Sport mode and not only made a better noise but got up to way quicker than any of them at the experience, I got a few looks over the fence. lol

If you really want to drive someone else's car quickly on track then I'd recommend either Palmersport or a Book-a-Track Caterham. Every other track experience day I've heard of sounds like an utter waste of time.

My son had a good day (apart from me watching and trying to video/take pics in the peeing rain) recently at Crail, with an outfit called Supercars Scotland, he seemed pretty pleased with his experience.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

A friend's wife has asked me to recommend a driving experience day for his birthday. I did the Ferrari day at Knockhill moons ago when it was the F355, which was OK but I didn't feel was great value for money.

Does anyone have recommendations of other experiences in more recent times? I hear the single seaters at Knockhill are a better bet, so that might be an option if she's ok with it not a supercar specific day.

Knockhill single seaters are by far the best trackday I have ever done, go as fast or as slow as you like, the cars have more grip (in the dry on a warm day) than you can imagine, enough power to feel fast but not enough to spin the tyres, interesting gear stick on the right hand side and great noise.
I think mine gave you an instructed lap or two in a new civic type-r which was dull and a passenger lap in something else which was also dull.

Been to knockhill in my own supercharged 350z but I wouldn't bother taking it now after the single seaters, so light and fun in the corners!
(ended up buying a lighter car to turn into a track toy as power isn't actually everything.... (say's the man building a stronger engine for the Z).
