A9 Slocht today. Scamera Van??
Discussion
Ok, Ok I know. and truly should know better. Wasn't utterly hooning it but certainly a bit high on the velocity front (reckon a smidge over 80) on the dual carriageway section while getting past some bunched up traffic while coming back down from Inverness after a lovely day at Castle Stuart links.
A9 at Slocht, dual carriageway me outside lane white van on verge with the wee flaps on the doors which to all intents and purposes look like scamera ports. Except for a couple of things - the hatchings on the doors are yellow and orange, the side was unmarked and the lights on the roof were orange. Later on the journey a motorway maintenance vehicle I saw had the same colour hatchings and orange lights.
Can anyone shed any light?

Yep, b
ksed!
The story is out of date but the picture shows their van.

As far as I can recall, the Scamera Partnership vans all have the orange/yellow highway stripes on the back and orange beacons, don't they?
I think the ones operated by the police get blue lights and can have red/yellow or red/orange stripes?

The vans usually only catch at 82 except in Dundee and Perth/ Stirling area where it is 78
Not sure of your exact location. Also go check your speedo for accuracy. Most Sat navs are accurate to about +-1 or 2mph. Try at constant 60 and then 70mph and see variation and can then calculate at 80. Would be amazed if your speedo didnt over read by at least 2-3mph at indicated 80.

That's the wee f
ker in the picture. If it is set at 82 then I may - just - have got away with it. It was on the uphill stretch of the dual carriageway around the Slocht summit and I had been on cruise control happily at an indicated 77mph. I merely put a quick burst on to pass a couple of cars as we were a bit too bunched up for my liking (their cruising speeds were up and down like a w
es drawers). I passed, spotted the van, backed off and was able to scrub my speed down to an indicated 70 by the time I was in full view. Just need to wait and see I suppose.
Lesson learned . . . . . Licence been clean for over 10 years so in many respects I have been very lucky

Ditto. Alot of apps for phones (iphone and android) out there that can give a much better indication than your speedometer.Edited by Meths on Monday 22 April 22:04
Or the old fashioned way
Drive at an indicated 60 on mothorway in the same lane! Count first marker post, being small white post with red band and blue square as 0 and then 16 more. Ate the Use a stopwatch to time. Exactly one mile. then do the arithmetic. 66 seconds 10% over etc
Possibly best using cruise control and a very empty road as is surprisingly difficult to cruise for that distance at steady speed when trying!

Or find "true" 60mph with your trip computer and your watch: 0.1 miles in 6 seconds = 60mph
Why would the trip computer be more accurate than a speedo?
Run of same areas so equally inaccurate
Paul
And in actual fact, my Clio's trip computer calculates the average speed perfectly to 1 decimal place. Not sure how it does it (takes definite distance/time, or witchcraft) but it does

Sorry I meant "trip computer" as in the odometer/mileage counter, where indicated 1 mile must equal 1 actual mile, whereas the speedo is set to overread so is obviously less accurate.

It measures the rotations per second from the wheel. (rads/sec for engineering people)And in actual fact, my Clio's trip computer calculates the average speed perfectly to 1 decimal place. Not sure how it does it (takes definite distance/time, or witchcraft) but it does

wheel diameter, tread depth, Tyre pressure & sidewall size are variables that can effect the odometer, and are often different car-to car. Therefor isn't reliable.

So my car might not have done exactly 69980 miles?wheel diameter, tread depth, Tyre pressure & sidewall size are variables that can effect the odometer, and are often different car-to car. Therefor isn't reliable.

Mind blown...
Don't relax too soon. There is only a 14 day time-limit on the first S172. The recipient (lease-co) has 28 days to return it. Then the Scamera partnership have no prescribed time to send the second one to the employer, who also get 28 days to reply. Again, the scamerati can take their time sending you the S172.
Mine took exactly three months to reach me and I was about to put my hands up for it when I realised that it was actually the delivery driver taking my old car south after delivering the new one who had had the kodak moment. So I took the whole 28 days before replying in an effort to further slow the system for him.

First I'd check the distance on the motorway markers. Initialy they were in 1/10 mile ( if memory serves). From recent obversation I'd suggest more like the distance markers have been metricated . Problem for those blokes in A9 territory is that there's few motorways for them to check their speedo against . Drive at an indicated 60 on mothorway in the same lane!
