A bit off topic maybe, but...

Looking for recommendations for contractors / methods.

We intend to do some building work, and I am looking into the possibility of a cellar room, 1/2 under ground level (so 1m below, 1m above). The house floor level is approximately 1 to 1.2m above rear garden height.

So I need to remove some 40m3 of mixed ground / soil.

Simple solution is to buy (and then re sell) a digger and mini dumper, and get in about 10 builders skips, at about £210 per skip.

Any other sensible options? Does anyone in Aberdeen area offer reduced rate skips for earth as opposed to mixed waste? A friendly farmer with a field perhaps?

It should also be noted that we will have to take down a garage (to be rebuilt with rooms on top), and transfer stuff from the rear of the house to the drive in the front.

Or any recommended earth works / excavation service companies?

cheers

I put an extension on the back of my house last year, probably didn't remove as much ground as your planning but I got the details of a local guy who did the job at very good rates from the main contractor doing the actual building.
Has a full time job but does this on the side, has his own mini digger and dumper and his own Skip truck to take the debris away, licensed to dump at landfill.
Drop me a message and Ill try to dig out his details. I was very happy with his work and costs.

I used these guys a few years ago to do my foundations for a garage in central Aberdeen and were no problem at all. They have grown a lot since then but probably worth a call.
