Hi,

Does anyone know of any track days being run in the next month or so before the weather gets really bad??? Work commitments have kept me off track all summer so I'm going to be a bit if I don't get out to play soon...

Only thing on the horizon seems to be the monthly bash at Edzell...which could be fun but I'd like some bends...

thanks,

Dave

Couldn't find anything on this month (I missed the last SIDC day at Knockhill) so I'm going on a long drive south for a trackday next Monday at Cadwell (so long as weather holds). Its a long way (900 mile round trip for me) but will make a change. There are a few events on at Elvington later this year - a mere 200 miles from Edinburgh. Check out www.javelin-motorsport.co.uk.

Sounds like a trip south probably my best bet.

Cadwell should be a lot of fun George. Only seen it on the telly and on Petrol Ted's videos but it looks like a cracking circuit with at least as many ups and downs as Knockhill. Hope you get good weather for your trip!

Dave,

SIDC have a provisional booking for a 14:00 to 17:00 session on Saturday 23rd October at KH.

Light will be fading by then, so may only get through to 16:45 or so. The organiser (John Stewart) is waiting to hear back from KH if they can confirm it.

Cost likely to be around the £50 region, given the reduced running time, and time of year.

Keep an eye on the SIDC shop, it should be possible to book up on line.

It'd be great to see two Ultimas there if you and George can make it.

I don't know if I'll have the Westfield out that day - it might be in hibernation by then.

George,

Good effort with the trip to Cadwell! Give me a shout for a beer when you're available.

Cheers,

N

Hot off the press!

This is now booked and confirmed.

It should be available on the SIDC shop (link in my previous post) later today or tomorrow morning.

The price will be £50 for non SIDC members (£45 for members).

Times may change on the day to be 13:45 to 16:45, as 5pm will be around when it starts to get dark.

The event coincides with the SIDC AGM, so demand for places is expected to be a bit higher than normal. Early booking is hence advised to guarantee a space.

Cheers,

N

Just received this message ...

The date is Saturday 23rd October, and we've booked the track from 2pm to 5pm (it gets dark around then!). Depending on the light on the day, this may change from 1:45 to 4:45, so please turn up early!

Usual format of a few warm up laps to start with, then an open pit lane.

Wheels Around will be there to help with wheel/tyre swaps, slick/road tyre rental/purchase, storage of stuff whilst you are out on track etc.

Bargain price of only £45 for SIDC members, and £50 for non-members.

Booking as always is
on-line. Please note that non-members entry is on the 2nd page (you'll also notice we have Bedford booked for the 26th February, for those who want to try a different track - there will be a group of us travelling down from Scotland for this one!)

Some of you will also notice that we're holding the SIDC AGM afterwards in the media centre. We'll have the whole committee here for this event so you can chat to them, ask questions, scare them around the track etc.

The AGM will only be open to current SIDC members, though as always, you can join on-line or on the day. Afterwards, there will be some refreshments arranged in Edinburgh (beers and curry!!)

Hope to see lots of you there.

Best Regards

John

PS I'll be on holiday the week before this event, so please remember to send me your car make, model, registration no and colour as soon as you have booked up, so I have all the info to hand.

Cheers,

N

OK, that's me booked for SIDC day too. Cadwell trip went well, just slightly deaf now after 1068 miles in less than 2 days (160 or so on track), but car went well, nothing broke and handling much improved since last track day due to a few setup tweaks. Looking forward to KH. If it is wet I will have to bring the limo though, rears on Ultima getting a bit light on tread.

That's quite a trek in an Ultima! Glad the car's in one piece. Hope you got decent weather..it was OK up here so Ifigured you'd probably be OK.

Any tips on the set up front?? I'm going to loosen up my dampers a bit next time I'm out on the road to see if that makes my beast ride the potholes any better...should make it handle a bit better in the wet.

Dave, just a combination of tweaks really on setup. I rechecked geometry more carefully and reset everything as recommended by Ultima manual. Re-bushing rear suspension with nylatron has certainly helped too, much more stable and predictable. I'm also happier with brake bias now. Dampers I am running 10 clicks from full soft on road, I added 5 clicks for track, could probably stiffen more but Cadwell like KH a bit bumpy in places and fairly soft settings good enough for my pace. The thing certainly felt planted in the dry. Will still be evil in the wet I suspect, regardless!

I think this is now cancelled due to weather and poor take up.

If anyone's booked up, best check direct with KH before setting out.

Can't help the weather but they'd get better take up if they actually publicised the event... Not a sausage on their website. Checked a few weeks ago and nothing then either. sigh.

There's an EVO track-day at Knockhill on the 3rd of November (or thereabouts). All day session, I believe.
