Hello all!

Myself and the Mrs have booked an Austin Healey 3000 for the last weekend in March. We'll be based in Dollar, East of Stirling. I was wondering what the best driving routes are in the area. The hire company have come up with the following:

http://goo.gl/maps/GHmzm

http://goo.gl/maps/BPABt

Are there any better options, or variations of the above routes?
We'll have the car all day the first day and until around 5pm on the second. We're ready and willing to drive long distances if there are significantly better roads further afield! The distance isn't an issue as we're not limited to a certain mileage per day on the car smile

Thanks in advance!

James

Dukes pass (aberfoyle to Callander) is a must. If you want to be lazy pm kmm or fernando and ask for a copy of some of the north/west central Scotland runs they've produced. Day 1 dollar-auhterarder-Crieff-aberfeldy-killin-kilmahog-aberfoyle-fintry-Denny-dollar
Day 2 dollar -Dumbarton- fernandos west coast run up past rest and be thankful finishing at dukes pass again and home. Epic roads, good lunch, coffee stops. Simples

I'm aware of the guys in Dollar who do these rentals. Would be interested to hear how it goes.

I've considered using them a few times but as I live nearby and already have an old British sports car it's never made it to top of the list.

Do,fancy a shot of their TR6 though.......

You be driving this one then...

I had it (and the MGB) out for a run a couple of years back and it's great fun biggrin
The routes suggested are good if you are going back to Dollar at the end of each day. If not, let us know where you intend to spend the night and we'll try and come up with something interesting thumbup

You'll be hard pressed to d more than 150 - 200 miles a day (think I managed 250 in the B)and if you are going back to Dollar overnight that limits the outward distance somewhat.

Alex (the proprietor at the time) is an interesting character and the cars seem to be well looked after. I did have a couple of problems with the B which the AA and a pint of oil took care of… But that's all part of the classic experience wink

Indeed that's the one smile. We're doing their mini-tour so we'll be back in Dollar each night as you say. I'm looking forward to it more every day now! I'm glad to hear that they're well looked after smile. Out of interest where did you go when you had it?

Personally I would go east from dollar, down glen devon, past gleneagles and on to loch earn then you have the choice to go back through Callander or head up past the green wellie finishing at glen coe.

Well worth the run.

Billy.

agree but I'd say Gleneagles to crieff then sma glen to Amulree, glen quaich to kenmore then a loop along loch Tay and over the Ben lawers/glen Lyon road. Lunch at Fortingall hotel = yum.
