I've just purchased a 1991 Merc 300 E. Is there anyone PHers would recommend to thoroughly clean the interior in the Edinburgh area? The interior is in excellent condition but a little grubby so would respond well to a thorough clean. It has leather.

Followed your exploits from the Barge thread with interest - good effort.

I've used the AutoValet guys through work and they have been good as is Graham from Custom Detailers. Graham is dearer but more of a detailing service.

Good luck
Paul

Thankyou Paul, the Autovalet guys are based very near me so that's a very convenient recommendation. I rather like the old girl so might spend a few quid getting her nice again. Regarding the outside I'm not quite sure what I am looking for - there are a few 'dinks' I would like taking out, and I would also like to get some polishing work done on the paint.

If you get the £45 (i think) valet done on the car then they'll polish & wax it for you too so then you can make a better call on what will be needed with the paintwork. That alone will probably make a huge difference if it hasn't been done.

I haven't used them but have had http://www.ding-goes.co.uk/index.php recommended.

Did you go with AutoValet? If so, just make sure you are clear with them when they get there with regards to the type of dash polish they use. Personally i hate a high gloss finish and if they think it is a polished bit of dash then that is what they'll use unless you tell them otherwise.

I think you'll find a lot of people in the Barge thread would like to see some photos!

I did indeed, and thanks for the tip. I'll post some photos next week once done, also having the outside cleaned and polished. I'll start a reader's car thread over the weekend as there are a few bits that need sorting. Cheers!

Paul, apologies for the lack of response. The result from the full treatment (5+ hours of work after discussing with Simon) was great and I really appreciate the recommendation. Apologies for the phone pictures:

Most importantly the car still looks good and only needs a jetwash to really shine - water beads nicely on the painwork, the car looks new.

Simon was a good chap dropping me back to my work while they carried out the treatment, and dropping the car back to me in the work car park when I was in a long meeting - he will be getting more business from some of my (rather better endowed in car terms) colleagues.
